The thing about our younger players

by Jettrax » Sun Jul 17, 2011 12:08 am

I have been trialing for admin for a while now and I have never been one to be an ass or intolerant of younger players with mics on the servers. I have read the rules and i know age discrimination is not tolerated.

But here's the thing, There has been kids who simply do not stop talking about random unrelated crap and there has also been kids who do not stop complaining when they get killed.

So basically, Should I mute someone who is being extremely annoying even though it is unintentional on their part?

This has always bugged me and i dont want to be known as that asshole admin who mutes younger players.

most admins consider that to be mic spam. randomly talking to no one for a while is the same as playing music no one wants to hear
ask nicely to please be more quiet (maybe warn 2 times)
then you can rightfully mute as long as like one other person is complaining they are annoying.

If a person is being extremely annoying and they won't listen to your requests to stop talking so much, mute 'em. It's not age discrimination, the kid is making the other player's experience unbearable. It doesnt matter if the person is 13 or 30. If the person is annoying and won't listen, shut them up.

You'd do the same if someone was playing drunk and wouldn't shut up, right?

Just treat little kids like drunken adults, and suddenly issues of "age discrimination" get a lot clearer to decide.

The way I see it, if they aren't listening to the admin's simple requests, then they should be punished, plain and simple.

Like drunks. Though if it's obvious that they're trying and just not doing a very good job, a temp mute or kick to give them time to get their things in order is often a good alternative.

I haven't seen much complaining yet, nor have I banned anyone because of useless complaints, but I'll answer anyways.

What I would do is just warn them a couple of times, then gag/mute them if they don't stop. (I would joke around at first, but that's just me being laid back) If they keep reconnecting to get past the gag/mute, give them an hour ban. (or more if it's severe) If they don't change afterwards, a week to permanent ban.

I don't care how old people are, but I still expect people to at least be mature. After all, this is a "douchebag-free environment."

To be honest Jett, this reminds me a lot of me. I just start ranting about stuff no one understands, except I come to the realization no one cares, so I stop talking :P. But anyway, it is fine to mute them after 1-2 warnings if they're being annoying.

๑ﭥ klanana: tbh, i always thought you were mean to me before because i was a girl
oaties: lol, really?
๑ﭥ klanana: then i found out you thought i was a guy.

Not much of a point IMO, since they'll come back ungagged/unmuted. (and never have seen many people listen to the messages when they're kicked)

Its kind of annoying and kind of weird that muting and gagging are two of the few commands I dont have access to as a trial Pinkie. It seems like i shouldnt have access to the game changing commands instead but oh well, hopefully that will change soon :P

If we don't have access to permamute/gag (though I really think we should), temp ban if they rejoin to circumvent your mute/gag.
