Slay box suggestion: server time limit for plr

Payload race seems to go on forever, and rarely does a call to rock the vote pass. It often goes into stalemates for long periods of time.

I suggest adding a server time limit for plr maps, much like there is one for most of the map types (specifically 5cp). I can understand the timelimit on a 5cp map, both sides can hunker down and draw the whole thing out. Similar thing happens on plr maps, yet there is no server time limit set, so it drags on and on until one side finally wins or a rtv finally passes.

TL:dr - please set a server time limit on plr maps.

20 mins seems fair for plr given that many pl maps can last 40+ mins without too much complaint. It would also be nice to see a 5 or 10 min time minimum also added on 5cp maps.

Literally my favorite non-CSn server is a 32 man tdm_Hightower that blocks the Gunslinger. It's beautiful.

The problem with pipeline and hightower is built into the map. Timelimits can expire but until something caps the map won't end. Blame Valve. There's no time trigger.

Drat, so you can't just make it go into an arena-like deathmatch once server time is up? Thought I saw that somewhere but maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe that is what happens on the 5cp. I don't remember, it's Monday, shush.

Well the timelimit could be put on anyway, so that it would definitely change maps after someone finally caps for the first time in a half hour match instead of going x number of rounds.

If I recall, and I could be wrong, such a time does exist, but what can happen is that the first round will take all but the last minute on the clock and then another round starts that goes on forever.

Maybe going into sudden death when it runs out isn't a bad idea...

There is both a round limit and time limit on every map. Sometimes Hightower will change after 1 round. There's no default end on both Hightower and Pipeline. What you are asking for is already there. Valve just didn't add the proper entities for this style of map. Play Nightfall. The map maker added an end game.

My apologies. When I typed this thread up I had just played a plr_nightfall (I believe) that when displaying the scores via tab showed a "no time limit". This occurs on some attack/defend maps too. Thus we usually have to go through the entire cycle of maps associated with whatever we're playing (I.e nightfall 1 2 3 or each team attacking then defending the cycle) before it'll change. Last night I noticed that not all maps of those types are set as "no time limit," but I don't think all are. If I'm wrong, apologies. I was just hoping for a way to end the map before the default # rounds won or before the default "finish the cycle", because Saxton Hale knows most RTVs never pass.

What he means is that nightfall goes into "sudden death" by causing both carts to slowly move forward at the same speed once the time limit is up.

Also, I think one thing that would help would be to lower the map time limit to 15 or so minutes. That way if a single round does last really long, the server will just move onto the next map instead of starting another round of Hightower.

For everyone's edification, what are the current time limits on Hightower so we have something to compare to?

Map servers are not different between servers. Yes the map voting is different but all the servers share the same mapname.cfg IE plr_pipeline.cfg pl_badwater.cfg ect ect ect.

It is what it is. Adapt.

I'd be ok with reducing it to just 1 round if a time-limit is unable to be applied. Nothing on the server is worse than battling through 3 stages for 50 minutes on pipeline only to realize that there is another full round to go until the map changes.
