I couldn't care less. It affect me in the slightest. Besides, our arena server still hasn't gotten off the ground.

Yes. Back on topic: since slaybox 2 is a rental we could simply move it to Seattle or whatever.
Not sure if the ip would change.

I don't think our community is big enough for another server in the US to fill up (regardless of whether we can afford it by canceling UK). West coast servers might help a few people but there isn't too much demand for them, especially with skybox 1 being immobile in chIcago.

Wouldn't you get a usable ping at least if it was a west coast server?

The difference between Chicago and say Seattle is only by a few hundred miles, which would give only a slight improvement, if at all. The only server location that would actively benefit me would have to be in Australia or Japan.

I'm absolutely horrible with geography, but this is what WolframAlpha says: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=di ... +and+japan

The difference is apparently 1,500 miles actually. I think it might have to do with the curvature of the earth? In any case, perhaps there aren't cables that connect Japan to the US through the Pacific side? Have you tried seeing the latency of West Coast servers by filtering them in the server browser? I'd imagine if there aren't pacific cables the ping should perhaps be higher for the West Coast.

Also, you say it's only a couple hundred miles: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=di ... nd+seattle

Add some basic math, and if you get 200 ping on Chicago you should probably get 150 ping in Seattle. Though, any higher, and yes, the ping difference won't matter.

Actually there are

I would assume if your ping is 200ish in the server now, a west coast server would lower it to 120-150

I think a server in California would be nice. I have a lot of friends from out west that would not even think about playing in a server if their ping was 80+.

Just noticed Discountgameservers.com does offer LA servers.

BUT: Interestingly: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=Di ... e+to+Japan

Seattle's closer to japan than LA is.

Just some clarification: I don't live on mainland Japan. I live 1000mi south on a little archipelego by the name of Okinawa. Still part of Japan, but not mainland.

Chi servers are big because it offers a middle ground to west and east coasters. You'd think I'd be all for a server closer to me in Utah, but I think we leave sb2 where it is and open a new one. We have the funds benny, why not open a third sb.

Because our other servers haven't gotten off the ground. Arena never has people in it, and I've never seen UK with ANYBODY in it, ever.

Than replace one of those servers. Don't mess with something people are already used to, and have made their usual server. SB1 and 2 have their own regulars.

OK...
SB2 not going anywhere.
Talking adding a 3rd slaybox type server on the west coast.
the "Arena" server has been randomizer for some time, and is quite popular. Until it randomly crashes.....currently 20 people in it.
The need to for benny to run a EU server is a completely different conversation.

I think a 3rd SB is a good idea.
