Post Your Favorite Song Covers

by Harri » Sat May 04, 2013 10:08 pm

Lately, I've been enjoying song covers on youtube in the wee hours of the morning when I should be sleeping, but insomnia is a cruel, cruel thing. What are your favorite covers?

Here is one of my favorite covers:

Gangnam Style - PSY (Jayesslee Cover)

I saw that one on reddit today. I almost feel like his version is better than Daft Punks. At least, his vocals are better.

Knowing my fallout tendencies I would call the NCR on their raider looking asses. Good music though.

The original version is fantastic, but the distorted sound keeps it from having the chilling effect that comes with a somber, melancholy delivery.

It's amazing that Cake found a way to improve Gloria Gaynor's classic.

Who would've thought that this Disney Girl could actually belt out a meaningful tune? Here's hoping she goes in this direction with that Hannah Montana stuff behind her.

It's amazing how much success the classic rock icons of the 60's got from covering soul and R&B hits from times before.

This is the sort of thing that you yell with your buddy as you cruise down the highway, windows down, on a warm summer night at 3 am. At least, that's the memory this song brings me back to.

I got tired of looking at Drawed's face.

I think the cleaner vocals work better if you're not hearing it live. I saw Justice live last year and it was indescribably better than listening to their music in any other way; I have the same impression of Daft Punk.

Also, the Radioactive cover is the tits. I love me some string arrangements in rock songs.

Damn Fencer, that was sick.

It reminded me to add a Sun Ra cover:

And then add Yo La Tengo's cover on Sun Ra:

And for some reason, Arcade Fire covering "Aquarela do Brasil":

Pretty happy to be remembering these covers I heard years ago.
