Is anyone here a good texture/pixel artist?

Talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with TF2 or other games.

Is anyone here a good texture/pixel artist?

by Boler » Sat Aug 04, 2012 2:41 pm

I dabble in programming, and while I am not pursuing a serious career in game design it is a side hobby that I like to pursue. I've taught myself how to do C#, how to model crudely using both Blender and 3DS Max, mapping, source modding basics, and can even hash out some sound effects if apply enough random filters in Goldwave, but my main weakness is digital art.

While I'm a decent pen and paper artist (meaning I can doodle up concepts if I have to), for some reason any form of art I try to make digitally looks like regurgitated shit. Even the programmer art I try to make as a placeholder tends to fall short of what I aim for, and as a result I sort of stopped working on my hobbies for awhile. Now obviously making a game takes serious work and time, but I'm not really asking to band together for the ultimate new game of the year. I'm just wondering that, should I pick up this hobby of mine again, if anyone on this forum is capable of the above talents that I could call upon in need. Credit would be given of course, but I'm not looking to sell any games until I either get a few decent ones under my belt or if for some reason the game becomes ridiculously good.

I'm now going to post a few things to show I'm not full of bullshit, and hope that someone can come through, or at list give a link to some bored freelance artists.

Oh man I recently installed new blender and was blown away by how awesome it was. They really fixed up the interface a lot. I didn't play with it long enough to try out any new features but I imagine those are improved as well.

Yeah, They are working on a new render engine (Cycles) which I really like, and am waiting for it to get more features, Bmesh, which brings Ngon support to blender, which is also quite useful to s lot of people, there is also camera tracking, which allows you to take say, a video and add 3D models to it, And many more that I can't think of atm

Uh, pixel art. Hmm.
I used to dabble in it, I couldn't have gotten any worse.
Anything you could have me practice on?

If you could link me to some stuff you've done that would be awesome, otherwise just add me and I'll torment you for things.
