Essentially Konami released a video that showcased their new series of pachinko machines, but with a beautiful recreation of a scene between the Boss and Snake, and some cutscenes from the boss battles of the game, from the Playstation 2 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in the newly created FOX Engine that was developed for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.
This was taken as a shock by the community, as earlier on Konami has since stated that they have their faith in the gambling audience and that they may plan to approach mobile gaming later in the future because microtransactions, but not many had realized that the company was going to use the Metal Gear franchise as a utility for their pachinko machines. This has led to the concern for the series, as this looks like it would've been an amazing version to play, and Konami may use the other games from the series in the future.
As a fan of the series, this is pretty disappointing news as the game in the FOX Engine looks amazingly stunning when compared to what it was when it originally released on the PS2. Even at that, I feel that the new engine and hardware could even improve on the loading times the original game was had, such as combining areas so that the game can feel more fluid.
With Konami's recent decisions, how The Phantom Pain's ending was essentially unfinished after the firing of game director Hideo Kojima, and E3 around the corner here in four days, I can only hope that we get to see Konami deploy this newer Snake Eater in action.
