The Super Bowl, outside

by Maringue » Tue Jan 28, 2014 1:13 pm

So there are a ton of people in front of TV cameras complaining about the fact that the Super Bowl is going to be played outside.

Like here: http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/28/opinion/downey-play-super-bowl-indoors/index.html?hpt=hp_t4

What's your take? Personally I think that the threat of cold weather in winter (*gasp*) has lowered ticket prices because dickbags who never watch games or follow a team are not going, which is awesome. I think the only people complaining are rich jackasses who A) don't want the cold weather to affect the money they rake in from surrounding events and B) are annoyed that they will have to wear a coat to the game.

It's football and it's winter time. Stop complaining that it's going to be cold and bring a flask like a normal person.

Totally agree with everything you said. This is football weather, and if it happens to snow then all the better. As long as there's not a crippling storm that prevents people from safely arriving at the stadium I don't see a problem at all.

Why should we allow weather to affect games in every other game (including the conference championships) and then suddenly provide pristine conditions for the Super Bowl? It's stupid, and the people whining are mostly to the corporate world:

Taken from http://www.businessinsider.com/super-bo ... cos-2014-1 which breaks it down even more.

All that said, my friend is a GIANT Broncos fan and we live on Long Island (we've easily taken public transportation to Metlife) and he said he wouldn't even look at the cheapest tickets because of the cold. But he's a baby. :)

Most people believe the NFL is "testing" this to see if an outside superbowl is viable in a cold climate. I think Denver could easily host a Superbowl in the future, their climate is more like a desert and very mild. My cousin was always heartbroken that the broncos did not build a dome for their stadium, but I think it is doable if this works out fine for the NFL.

Unfortunately, with the way everyone FREAKED out because of the last storm, I find it unlikely they'll do a cold climate game anytime soon. I think we'll see London before we see cold climate.

I for one find the prospect of a Snow Bowl in the actual Super Bowl very exciting, and anybody who doesn't is from the south and doesn't know how to deal with cold weather.

Also, this isn't some test, there's no way that the NFL is going to be able to snub teams from the kind of money they make from hosting a Super Bowl just because they're in a cold-weather environment. It's not fair financially and it's also not fair to the fans who find it exciting to see their team's stadium hosting the big game. I recently read that counting this year's game being in New York, only 15 cities have been used for Super Bowls. That's 15 venues over 48 of these. How many cities are left out? How many teams and fans are completely snubbed just because half of the nation doesn't like the kind of weather they get?
I play Scout and Medic a lot.

Honestly, I could care less about the Superbowl. I've never actually watched it, ever. If the cold bothers you, there's always the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. As long as the roads are safe, there's no reason to postpone the game. Jersey's pretty good at dealing with snow, and no one wants to postpone the game unless it's absolutely necessary, so the roads should be fine. I can't really see any major problems.

All of the SNOWMAGGEDEN OMG is down the drain now, as it's forecasted to be just around 39 degrees at kickoff with no real shot at any snow showers Saturday or Sunday. All that hullabaloo for nothin'!

Isn't football like video games...but outside...and/or exercise? No thanks.
