The CSn Minecraft Experience

I've been wondering about the CSn Minecraft server and what it could be. As far as I'm aware the current server is a basic vanilla minecraft server.

Who thinks that this would be a good idea once the 1.6 mods have been released and are stable: I say we install a few plugins and try to upgrade the play experience of people on the server. A few that come to mind are:

  • Factions. (This lets people make their own faction and claim territory in the world)
  • CreeperHeal. (This reverts all damage done by explosions after a preset time)
  • Cannons! (This allows players to construct a cannon, load it with certain kinds of projectiles, aim it, and fire. Some projectiles I've seen have something like a shotgun type of effect all the way to burrowing out large tunnels. Projectiles are customizable.)
  • mcMMO. (This creates skills within the game that do different things. For example: Mining. As you use a pick to mine appropriate materials you level up mining. A higher skill in mining increases a chance for the mined object to drop double and give you a skill that allows one hit to break the appropriate blocks for a short time. Which skills are active from the plugin and how fast they level up are customizable.)
  • iConomy and Chestshop. (These plugins create an ingame currency and the ability for players to create shops to buy and sell items.)
  • *WorldGuard. (With Ninja mentioning spawn protection, this came to mind. It would let the server OPs create areas that nobody could alter; e.g., a spawn town with basic rails out to the general wilderness and a shop with basic amenities.)

I'm not sure if anyone would be game for this but ideally by allowing PvP on the server (With CreeperHeal preventing loss of construction) the server would have some ongoing point to it. PvP would exist but the only loss someone would incur, assuming you were in a faction, would be items on their person. With time, if interest remains, we could potentially add objectives (Quarries, merchants with valuable items, etc.) and events to the server.

No one has really asked for mods but i would be happy to add whatever you guys want.
If you can find plugins like these that work with bukkit then i would be happy to add them.

Granted mods are kinda weird after updates so sometimes they don't work.

The reason i haven't been putting them on is due to the spawn protection.
I can't figure out how to turn it off ;_;

Spawn protection as in you can't edit the area around spawn?

If Bukkit is already installed then try going into server.properties and adding in a line that says: Spawn-protection=false

I have tried that but it hasn't worked.
I will retry again once I fully install 1.6.2

Well, lets say it doesn't work (It probably won't since it didn't before. :( ). Isn't there a way in Bukkit to move the spawn location? We could always build a nice spawn building for the server and move the spawn in there. Then use WorldGuard to prevent mob spawning and block destruction within a certain radius.

This way there is an attractive spawn location that can be expanded and controlled as the OPs see fit and then the spawn protection doesn't matter anymore. How does that sound?

Also, on another note. If this does take off do you think the server should be restarted with a new seed and such? I've only seen the area around the spawn but there doesn't seem to have been a lot of construction done. Which could also be an argument against resetting. Either way, it's just a thought.

Ahh the reason there hasn't been much expansion is not many people play minecraft.
And the map has been restarted fairly recently.
Although I don't mind restarting it at all.

And yes that is a good idea, after these sets of updates have all come out, I will do that when i get time to.

Right. I understand that not a lot of people play Minecraft. I'd like for the CSn Minecraft server to be something like HCFactions, Last Horizon, CivCraft, MineZ, etc. Something that we could advertise in the Slayboxes/LoveNest and vice versa. I'd like for it to be another play experience for the members of CSn to look forward to playing in and to maybe draw some new people in.

I think we could create an ongoing world with the introduction of PvP and possibly create some sort of long term objectives for people to accomplish this.
