CritSandvich server highlights thread - Highlights 13

by GoDM1N » Mon Oct 18, 2010 8:41 pm

Well I was going to do just one of these a week, however seeing how I actually liked making the 1st one so much, and how the community seemed to like it I pumped out another one last night. Instead of making a new thread for each one I'm going to just add them all here and update this thread as I go.

It's nice to see that someone in CSn maintains a YouTube channel with videos of their own. Still, on a different topic, I noticed that all these clips were on Goldrush. This brings me back to the point that we need some map variety. 9/10 times, the map is eithe Goldrush, Badwater, or Dustbowl. All great maps, but anything that isn't those hardly ever get voted for. I've never seen a CTF, KotH, and hardly any 5 CP maps. What the hell?

Well actually I had footage from other maps, but didn't add them to this video. However I do agree, but not 100%. I actually find the server on that newer PL map added in the engi update more than anything else, that said you're right, I've never seen the server on a CTF (thank god) or a KOTH map, and I wouldn't mind more CP maps.

Godmin, any requirements for sending in a video, like using default skins or using specific configs? I wouldn't mind sending in a few clips of the fun server or Slayboxes, but I also have custom skins downloaded.

However is fine. I think I'll put peoples names in the video somewhere so people know whos who. Would be cool seeing how other people play imo

That sounds truly neat, like the Moments of Glory thing only just for this community. We could let the community know about your videos and see if you get any submissions.

If you want, we could set up an email @ critsandvich.com like highlights@critsandvich.com so that you don't have to give out your email to the steam group.

I agree with the comment at the end of #4, that NuclearWatermelon engie guy is pretty fail.

He's being offensive when he shouldn't be, he needs to be nesting a sentry on his team's last point so they have a chance of overcoming his failure and winning the game.

TF2 Critsandvich server 6

Okay 6 is up. 7 is also done but have another copyright issue. I may upload 7 to another site because the music was simply too good to not use. I'll re-edit it sometime today as well and re-upload it to youtube. I'm also going to stop using the 10min 2 song format, movie maker as well as all the other programs seem to have problems I use with longer videos like that and keep crashing.

A few things regarding Highlights 8: I completely forgot the heavy had a shotgun. At the scene starting at 3:54, at the end of that I forgot I was watching a video, and tried to type "Godmin, that was beautiful" into the chat window. And thirdly, I'm sad I wasn't in that video once :(

Yea, people say I'm good but I'm just a "pubstar" imo. Never really got into Comp TF2 play. Think I played one match as a pocket, did ok, medic didn't die and I killed stuff but the other team wasn't that good >.< I did however play Comp CSS for quite awhile though. And as Argent said, they're "highlights" for a reason lol. Somethings I do good, sometimes I suck at life.

Anyway I'm editing 9 atm. Hopefully it will be up by 4amish

This ACTUALLY worked on the 1st round of that match and we medic/Engi capped the last point that way by him picking up his gun and placing it on the last point. Sadly I didn't get that on video so I thought we'd try it again :3

And Argent I actually had a clip of you backstabbing me I was going to put in, but I lost the one I was going to use and didn't think about it again till it was uploaded then thought "Hey I forgot the clip I was going to open with" :(

How do you get those achievement progress thingies to show up on your screen?

From the main menu, click the "View All" button next to your recent achievements in the upper-left corner, that takes you to the full list of obtained and yet-to-be-obtained achievements. Every one has a "Show on HUD" checkbox. Check the checkbox to make it show up on your HUD in-game.

That first roll with the spy was the worst failstab I've ever seen.

It's almost always hilarious when ppl accuse me of hacking whenever I randomly turn around and kill a disguised or cloaked spy via minigun/rocket/flame.
It's just a sixth sense...

They should stop coming up behind people who turn around frequently. That's why you stalk.

People don't know how bad I am.

They see me be bad in game, and they know, but then I leave, and through the power of doublethink they think I am somehow good. This cannot be allowed to stand.

I've thought about putting together a spy video, since I found out I can run fraps without an FPS hit. The only problem is the file size - several gigs every 10 seconds. What would be the most efficient encoding to use?

Great moment a few nights ago. I was on Dustbowl, in the normal engi spot on the second point. I LOVE playing engi on RED in Dustbowl.

Someone had spykilled me and my nest a few times. So I set back up and was spychecking every so often.

*Swoosh*
*Swoosh*
*Swoosh**Shimmer*
...
BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGDIIIIIIIIIIE

The spy was on TOP of my dispenser, more than likely waiting for me to go start a teleporter so he could sap my nest again.

ON TOP OF THE DAMN THING. I tried to get on top of it later in the match and couldn't figure it out.

Good times.

Heres what you do. You can record at 50-60 fps at half-size and the size will be 3.9gbs per-3mins. Or you can type "record uberspaivideo" in console and then after getting some good footage going back and playing that through TF2 via hitting Shift+F2 at the main screen, then only recording the parts you want with fraps. Only problem with the console record way is not everyone can use it. For whatever reason it just doesn't work for some people and it crashes a lot. I suggest recording a 3-5min bit then going to watch/play with it to see if your game crashes before spending a lot of time recording to only have the game crash every time you try to watch your demos.

It's easier to get a crouchjump if you learn to jump and crouch at the same time. The crouch CAN come a bit late, but it's usually not necessary. The idea is that you are lifting your legs while jumping and thus making your physics box smaller. It's useful for hopping onto a few places, but Valve designed all the maps in all its games so that it's not mandatory for anything (Except half life 1 I think).

Yep. I have a tendency to just automatically hit c as soon as I jump unless I'm going for shorter rocket jumps. While it's not mandatory for anything, there's a lot of cool jumps you couldn't make without crouchjumping.

Good progress fooling around with some Youtube APIs I found. http://critsandvich.com/videos

I'd like to add a version that has a list of official videos, but maybe this is good enough. We could make a youtube playlist, and read from that perhaps.

The main thing it's useful for is getting out of situations where a few people are shooting at you or you're on fire (you get extinguished as you stab someone). It's a bit situational, but not bad at all. I still have to figure out which watch works best with it but I think the c&d seems to work nicely. Dead ringer also gives you some leeway I suppose.

Re: CritSandvich server highlights thread - Bulletproof

I think the CnD could be nice because you can "safely" make it behind the enemy without being seen, but the dead ringer allows you to take more damage which automatically gives you more health. With that said, I really don't think it's application is much different than the regular knife. I have however noticed some key differences which makes the regular knife better to the majority of users. I have died to 1 crit sticky with my deadringer out at full (60hp) health. I lose majority of spy fights where as before I won most (half the health tends to do that I suppose). Lastly, I really can't "trade" hits like I used to... if I ever really could. I used to joke that spy had 1 hp, with the kunai it really feels like you have 1 hp. So for these reasons I limit my engagement times. Now, like Benny said, it heals you every time you get a kill. This means that you can take 174hps worth of damage after killing someone and have another 174hp to go through a second later with another backstab which makes chainstabs easier. Perhaps it's just the way it feels, but it still seems like you go through that health faster than normal though... perhaps it's the degeneration but a soldier or demo seems to be able to take a hit better, perhaps there's an "armor" or damage mitigation?

id use the DR watch with the kunai
but og watch is the best in my opinion. for the more aggressive less campy spy.
if you ever watched omfgNinga on youtube, he only uses the og watch even with the polycount set

Aye IW. OMFGNinja I think is the least impressive of the "elder" or "elite" spies. Just my opinion though... and I think I pissed off Sentry today so I guess I'm not one to talk lol. My favorite is PippiN all the way, but I dig Zeigon as well.

What I do find amusing is the mannerisms of what I consider better than average spies... the habitual weapon switch, the constant rage, etc.

;)

Spy videos are really fun to watch, but people focus too much on the stabs themselves. For me the real meat of a great spy video is in the positioning - slipping through a busy enemy push, using your enemy's momentum and movement patterns against them. Tense escapes from multiple enemies or a frantic revolvering after a backstab goes wrong - watching a great spy work is like watching some sort of dance :)

Only another spy finds that sort of stuff amusing though...

Already seen both of those videos, but they're nice ones, i especially like the 2nd with the YER. The first one was good, I don't think it's as uncommon as you may think Toaster, not all spies are pussies, dr or not. But it's okay, you can hate me because I still hate your squirrely little ass.

P.S. He ran away from the soldier he missed the stab on =P

IDK if this is the right place for posting sweet spy vids (since it's supposed to be CSN vids lol), but Zeigon is a pimp.

however I am always skeptical of these vids because their victims always seem super retarded.

And I want Anarchy to pay close attention at the soldier clip from the other night where I wait for him, constantly check to make sure he's going to come with me, and then when I run around the corner he bails on me (with 100% kritz). Medics just don't want to ever heal me.

Lol I was trying to get you to go up the stairs and around. I lost you when you went around the corner because I was headed the other way.

So soon it'll be the 18th, which was the day I posted my 1st CSn highlight video for fun and the want to edit a video. Turns out I liked doing it and have been posting them for nearly a year. I will be posting another video on the 18th (hopefully) and I want your replays. Dop is already sending me some of his replay videos and I'd like for others to send me in some cool highlights as well.

Plz send videos in the Mov file format at 720p as well as taken place in the CSn servers. The sooner you send me your replay videos the better and how edit your video in the replay editor is up to you, but don't add music or anything.

If I send you clips in DX8 with an FPS config etc, I'm assuming your settings will be applied instead of mine?

um no cause I want the mov file from the replay, not fraps.
