Hey Unicorn, so I have no clue when it comes to trading for unusuals. I have a few hats that I can trade with but I dont know whats a good trade and what isnt. Nor do I know how to trade up to better items from the items that I have. I have been in a few of the trading servers and tried to pick up on things but its kind of hard with all that is going on. Any help that you can provide would be wonderful. I posted a link to my backpack so you can see what I am working with. I know its not much.

Don't listen to Mike... he's not paying attention to the recent tf2 recession... If you are in a hurry to sell it...3keys/7refined is what it usually goes for. Otherwise... if it's a good level (collectors might want), you could still be hard pressed to sell it for 4 keys

so unicorn, as you're aware, i have very few items. i know nothing about unusual hats or what particle effects are how valuable with which hats--nothing at all.

but i'd like to pick up a soldier hat with, preferably, the ghost effect, or one of the colors of energy (secondarily, a heart, or flames).. how much money could i expect to spend on this, and how would i go about getting such a hat? what are the best ways of trading for it, in a manner that most directly translates cash into commodities i can trade for the hat? i guess because you can only trade 8 keys at once, that's not feasible, because i'd have to trust the seller or he'd have to trust me. and i know nothing about how much refined are worth, or buds, anything like that..

for hats with the effect i'd love, first and foremost, either an exquisite rack or hero's harimachi (that'd be sick, is it very rare?). otherwise a defiant spartan or a tyrant's helm. but i would settle on the hat if i could more easily get it with the effects i want.

care to give me a lengthy rundown on high-value trading? i know it's asking a lot. but i feel like you enjoy this just a bit and i'm excessively curious, but i haven't found a really good, current explanation in my brief searching.

The cheapest hats of the one you mentioned...and the cheapest effect combo would be ghost rack.
On the market a ghost rack goes from anywhere from 3-4 buds (30-40 keys)... however a flames soldier unusual (that isn't rack) tends to cost a pretty penny.... Unless you're prepared to pay large sums, the rack is a good fit (because many people don't like it).

Sooo, this seems like a helpful thread! So if G. items are the same or are - of the orginal game price, then since the only reason original promos are high is because ppl didnt predict them, would valve consider adding new quanlity of items? Because atm, as soon as its genuine, the prices are falling, even the ellis cap dont fall as much (in percentage) as these do. Ppl are treating the G. items as cancer as they are sterotyped as "common" (though theres like only 300-700 G. Mauls out there). I'm thinking Valves glad where they're at atm in terms of income and dont want to upset the players with more new stuff (as hypocritical as that sounds as they're releasing new promos and hats monthly). This is also the reason that there are no new unusual effects. All can be blamed with rumor spreaders who dont know what they're talking bout i.e.: (Paraphrase): "Oh Unusuals (dont even get me started with how many ppl cant spell this word correctly <<<) are gonna crash cuz too many are being unboxed at an expontenal rate". Little do they understand that with unusuals, there are over 1000 different combinations and therefore the chance of unboxing one is 1%. Therefore, the high tier unusuals will never be "common" as there'd always be more lower tier unusuals (and more ppl as time passes who would pay for these). They also dont seem to understand how the price of unusuals will not drop until ppl stop desiring them. Ironically enough, more than 60% of unusuals traded/bought, the traders are making an investment on that the price on that unusual will raise/they would make profit. So theortically speaking the whole unusual market is running on itself. In any case, there are a vast majority of players who are clueless on general prices and end up being ripped off by veterans such as: Unicorn

. In no way am I complaining as I understand that it is completely the "victim's" fault for being misinformed/clueless of the price. Anyway, my basic question is: where do u think the trade market is going, how long would it last in ur guess ( dont give me general statements like: As long as players are willing to pay/buy. Cuz im just asking ur opinion in the form of time; 1 yr; 2 yrs; etc), and how do u think new releases will affect the current trade market other than cuz momentary Inflation Hype.

spy hat = less preferred
new hat = great flux in price range (also = rare)
It's kinda ugly, but bareable
sunbeams = great effect, albeit burning flames and ghosts are better on spy

I'd see it around 12-14 although there isn't currently a set price. That doesn't matter though because currently, that should be the only Beams' cosa nostra at this moment.
Keep in mind that this is less than a beams fedora, which absolutely looks better, but is much less rare.

Tradings based on more than luck, but luck does play a large part of it. In the 4 months i've been bak i've trading moderately. In any case, theres technique thats are helpful. Such as: know the value of most hats, know how much ur trading for, always bring out positive attributes of ur hat, price ur hat a bit higher than its value, etc...

i got lucky, people were trading unusuals for reg hats. my first good hat was a max head, i kept it for awhile untill i traded it for an energy billycock (i thought energy was the best effect) i traded that for a scorching hotrod (i thought flames was lower than energy) then that for an energy brain slug (still thinking energy was better) then that for a sunbeams hardcounter (i knew that sunbeams was now better) then traded that for a max set

but then i unboxed an unusual burning flames festive tree, i traded that for around 4 max heads (when they were 6 buds

)

there are some collecters in the world who collect lvl 100s. tree normaly go for about 2 refined. for a lvl 100, i'd personally go for 3 refined

I honestly can't see someone paying over 2 refined for a festive tree, even if it was level 100. Only acception I could think of is someone trying to make a collection or blatantly overpaying.

So I have no idea what just happened.

I was playing on a Halloween server and got a Fallen Angel gift. This guy immediately traded me and asked if he could take that Fallen Angel off my hands and into his backpack. He said he'll trade it 1:1, so I asked him to put out all the stuff he's willing to offer into the trade window. He started with other Halloween costume pieces, then randomly into an Eviction Notice, then...a Team Captain.

Now, I pretty much have no clue about trading and hat prices and so on, but I know that is one extremely sexy hat and is supposedly worth a lot. Before he could change his mind, I asked for the Team Captain, and 3 seconds later, I am down one Fallen Angel and up one Team Captain.

And now I'm curious: did I accidentally stumble into an extremely good trade, or am I getting duped somehow? The Team Captain does say that it's not usable in crafting. Is this one of those "dirty" hats I keep hearing about (not that I know what it means)? I don't see myself ever wanting to use it as a craft ingredient (why would anyone even do that?) anyway, so I guess at the end of the day it doesn't really matter much.

no, its not, max heads are slowly on the rise. i have offers on my duplicated one that are worth more than that, i urge you to keep it, and then possibly sell it when it gets up to 4 earbuds (if you want to sell it) and then when it goes back down, purchase another max head.... profit!

see heres what i am doing.

i pay 1.75 earbuds for a max head, non-duplicated at their lowest price, then i invest in a duplicated one, as i love the max head, but no one really cares about dupes anymore, so i trade my max for a dupped max and a bills (so 1.25 earbuds invested)
I am waiting to get a good offer, ie three earbuds (total profit of 1.75 earbuds) in the event that max heads dont go up, im happy with keeping my max head, as i invested very little into it.

Also make sure to invest into hats you actually like, that are easy to sell, because if you dont like it anymore you can end up selling it later, the gonzilla is considered cancer, and would not be easy to flip.
