2015 Critsandvich Dodgeball Tournament Rules and General Information*Keep in mind, all this is subject to change.*If you have any questions, please post below.
The reason we are doing things a little differently this year, is to encourage teamwork and form and strengthen relationships within our community, as well as relations with other communities and non-affiliated players. In addition, we wish to avoid as much team stacking as possible. Thus, we will be separating players into ranks based on experience and skill, and from there, volunteer captains will pick teams in true dodge ball spirit.
Make sure to join the steam group at: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/critsandvichdodgeball
Practice Server is at the Fun Haus: 104.153.105.224:27015
Registration for full participation has closed! Substitutes may register via this form: http://goo.gl/forms/qDVOpzwAWX and will thus be entered into the competition. We ask that your profiles be public during the competition and recommend you add at least one member of the tournament committee (listed below) to your friends list for at least the duration of the game, so you can receive important messages. Don't worry, we won't spam you.
Why the Steam group? Because it is the
absolute most accessible forum for potential players to find and use. Everyone has a steam account; not everyone has a website forum account.
If you are interested in the tournament, but are hesitant to sign up due to other obligations, please contact one of the tournament staff to discuss opportunities for you, as registering as a substitute may be a very good option.
It is up to players to rank themselves, or if they choose, they can participate in a judged placement scrimmage, where three of the tournament staff will spectate a map of dodgeball, and will place players upon their displayed skill. If you wish to do this, please contact one of the tournament staff to schedule. When in doubt, go up a level, not down.
Pro Level: Very difficult to beat, have participated in multiple dodgeball tournaments, show exemplary skill in playing, is proficient at orbiting, spiking and rocket jumps, etc.
Middle Level: Above average players, are familiar with the ins and outs of dodgeball, familiar with the mechanics of orbiting, even if not always successful, comfortable with the game mode. Will hopefully make up the majority of the players.
Entry Level: Very rusty or very new to the gamemode.
If there is any contesting of a player's rank, we reserve the right to change their rank (if three admins agree) and/or have the contested player participate in a judged placement scrim, where three of our admins will decide the player’s rank by consensus. If they refuse the scrim, they will be expected to move to the contested “suggested” rank or be disqualified.
If a player shows low skill during a placement scrim but suspiciously exceptional skill during practice, it will be the team captain’s responsibility to have said player re-ranked and possibly moved to a different team. If this occurs during competition, the player will be disqualified and if available, a sub will be assigned from the pool to fill that rank slot.
Substitute Pool: These are players who may or may not be available on the day of, or were unable to meet the team deadline, but will still be ranked as pro/mid/entry. They can sub in for their category or above, but not below. They are not guaranteed a chance to play, but are willing to sub in if they are available when a slot is.
Team Composition:Any player may volunteer to be captain (once we have headcount, we’ll know how many captains we’ll need), then in true dodgeball spirit, the captains will pick their teams but they must have at least one of each mid-level and entry level, but no more than one pro-level.
Feel free to pick your players, just know that you have slots to fill, and you may not get your friends if they’re already taken. It will be up to the players to accept a team invite, feel free to use the team registration thread in the steam group to find people.
If any teams have empty slots, and players without teams by the end of the team selection period, we will fill those slots for you as per our discretion. Any remaining players will have the choice of forming teams from the pool, or remaining as substitutes.
If after registration has closed, we notice that a player is listed on two teams, the player will be contacted and asked to pick a team, and the captain of the team with the now-empty slot will be allowed to pick from any remaining substitutes.
From there, teams may choose names/themes, etc.
Captains, please post your team name on the team registration thread. They can be changed at any time up until the match schedule is posted.
Please keep team names clean, appropriate and not too long.
We encourage teams to come up with a theme for the competition, and encourage the player’s loadouts to coordinate
It will be up to the team captains to train and prepare their team for the tournament.
Rules for Captains:-Be responsible for ensuring that your team follows our community rules of conduct as well as the rules of this tournament.
-Be responsible for organizing your team, training them and/or arranging training and practices if need be.
-Captains will be required to have at least one committee member on their friends list, a forum account is recommended.
-On game day, the captains are required to be in the Mumble to keep track of when their team will be playing so they are not late. There will be a channel for captains and staff, and separate channels for each team currently in play to use if they desire, but they must be vacated for the next team upon match end.
-Be responsible for having all members of your team on time for matches. If players are longer than 5 mins late either the team will be disqualified or you will receive a random sub if there is one available. If you know where the person is and can get them into the server they will be allowed 10 mins.
Reporting IssuesAny issues you may have with your team, we recommend that you try to settle/fix the situation on your own. From there, simply contact the committee with any evidence you have and we may step in to mediate. However if we deem that fixing the problem would take too much time or costs too much drama, we reserve the right to choose to kick the perpetrator from the competition, following which we would assist in finding a substitute.
Registering SubstitutesIf after registration closes, a player on your team drops out, or becomes unreachable, you may request a substitute. First, we will go to the pool of substitutes and see if we can find someone available to fill your now-empty rank slot. If there is no one compatible from within the pool, then you may register a late-entry to the tournament. The committee reserves the right to request to spectate the potential substitute in gameplay to ensure that they are a correct fit to fill the space on the team and to approve that player for said rank slot.
Dodgeball 101 Workshop and Practice ScrimmagesWe will be hosting a “workshop” on the dodgeball server, before team selection begins.
This will be an opportunity for new players to learn the mechanics of the game, for rusty players to brush up on their skills, and for everyone to improve upon techniques, without formed team bias. There will be a brief explanation of basic tips and techniques if there are enough newcomers, and then the rest of the time will be open for players to come and go as they please and work with and coach each other. Most importantly, this will be an opportunity for captains to scope out potential teams before the team selection opens. Keep in mind, this is only a 24 player server, and we want to give preference to newer players, so captains might want to rotate in and out to allow each other to scope potential teams.
There will be two sets of practice scrimmages before the tournament begins.
Scrims will be scheduled during these sets so teams have a chance to play against other teams before the tournament. This gives teams the opportunity to scope out their competition, work on their teamwork, etc.
There will be different slots available at different times, it may help to have two captains coordinate to fill the same slot, so no team ends up playing alone.
Brackets: Once we have a final number of teams, we will decide whether or not to run single or double elimination. Brackets will be posted here:
http://challonge.com/CSNLNTourney2k15 and once brackets are filled with teams, then a rough timetable will be posted with the order of matches.
Tournament Rules-Map played will be tfdb_float until the Quarter or Semifinals (depending on number of teams).
-Each team upon entry to the Quarter/Semifinals will submit a preferred map to the committee. For each match, a coin toss will decide upon which team’s preferred map the match will be played. If both teams’ preferred map is the same, the coin toss will be null, and the match will commence.
https://www.random.org/ will be used for coin toss. This gives each team an opportunity to practice maps to work their advantages and disadvantages and to pit them against their opponent.
-Single Elimination vs Double will be decided once player registration closes and we have the number of teams.
-On pool tournament bracket format if we can get can get 2 servers up and working. We may just have one server as a sort of warm-up server.
-Standard two-rocket dodgeball with no nukes
-Best of 5 (first to three) wins advances to next bracket (win is classified as all enemy team members are eliminated)
-Alltalk will be disabled, no excessive voice chat in the game, as referees need to focus on the gameplay. Private mumble channels will be available for each team to use during the matches.
-No jumping over to the enemy side at any time. Doing so will result in a slay, you will be moved to spectate and your team will have to continue the match without you.
-Excessive stalling (long orbiting, destroying rockets on walls or floor) will most likely result in warnings and then a slay.
-Pink admins and tournament committee will be referees and if any trouble is caused we will decide what is done.
-If a player crashes or disconnects during a round, there will be no time outs. If the disconnection loses a round, too bad. However we will wait a short amount of time for you to rejoin for the next round.
Streaming and BroadcastingIf you are interested in either shoutcasting and/or streaming or broadcasting the tournament, please speak with the committee to volunteer.

FAQWhat is Dodgeball?Dodgeball is a gameplay mod for Team Fortress 2 and was originally developed by Voogru as a private Metamod extension. It was then made into a public Sourcemod plug-in by Asherkin.
In Dodgeball, everyone plays as the Pyro. Rockets are fired from a pre-determined spawn in the map. Each team of Pyros uses their compression blast ability to reflect the rockets and bombs back at the other team. Unlike in normal TF2 gameplay, these projectiles are designed to follow one targeted player (“heat-seeking”) until deflected by an air blast. When the projectile is air blasted, its affinity and color changes and it targets a random player on the opposite team. It gains speed with each deflection until the projectile's new target does not successfully deflect it, damaging or killing the target. The rocket can also be reflected into the ground to allow the player to survive and reset the rocket, and even rocket jump. Gameplay continues until one team is eliminated entirely, counting a win for the surviving team. Players are modded to have infinite ammo.
Our tournament will be double elimination bracket format. Each match will be played the best of five rounds, so basically the first team to score three wins will win the match and move to the next stage in the bracket.
Some dodgeball servers have nukes and bombs, will the tournament have those? No, we disable nukes and bombs, and will play double-rocket games.
What if I'm not good at dodgeball? That’s perfectly alright! We’ve all sucked balls before. Your captain will be responsible for coaching you to become the best player possible, and there will be plenty of opportunities to practice. Our tournament staff is also willing to help coach or find coaches if need be.
What if one of my teammates becomes unreachable? If one of your teammates becomes unreachable, then it will be up to your captain to petition for an exchange player, and the unreachable player will be dropped from the tournament.
Can I change my team?Up until registration closes, you are free to debate between teams. The only thing we ask is that you make sure you aren’t “leading on” any captains. Team registration must verify against player registration, and players are only allowed to enter on one team.
What if I have to drop out?Make sure to edit your registration post on the discussion board, and that your team captain is made aware so they can request a substitute.
I missed the deadline to register as a player, is there any way I can participate?Of course! After player registration closes, just feel free to post in the General Tournament Questions thread in the steam group and we’ll set you in the substitute pool. We can’t guarantee you any play time, but the opportunity is certainly there.
Are there any equipment restrictions? No, as due to the structure of the gamemode, each player will have a modified stock flamethrower. There are no restrictions on cosmetic items, but it’s typical for each team to have coordinated loadouts, and it will be up to your team to discuss that.
