can they be turned off in the slay boxes?
if a person wants krits, then they can ask their friendly medic for some
When I got kicked from casual...

Random crits do help some classes more than others, but before you jump on the soldier/demo get all the krits bandwagon, I can't tell you how many times I've been killed by a crit scattergun.

Also, random crits are a stock part of the game, so they would only but turned off in the mod server 3 if there is enough support for that idea.

Crit SG does max 180 on a meat shot :| (the same as a melee crit)

I would be all for a no-crit slaybox 3

Fuck crit. On one round out of the 8 death I got, 2 was non-crit.

We already experimented with turning crits and spread off on the 2F main server, the majority of people were not happy with it and our average pop dipped severely. Red people, is there a plugin that we could use to take a vote to turn off crits temporarily similar to what we have with alltalk?

But turning server 3 into a pro-style server (no crits, comp/push maps only) could work pretty well

There's a mod that can save player preferences. Say a majority join that want certain things. We can do that. Probably would need to be tweaked slightly. But other servers use it. If not, we can just write one. Mods are great for solving problems.

exactly, that always happens to me when i play medic.
and i dropped rank because of random krit yesterday while trying to populate.
the new people would kill me with random krit and id loose like 12 points but only gain 1 or 2 points from killing them

There are lots of other ways to get HLstats points, other than killing people. Learn them well.

i know, theres caping points, push cart, extinguish burning team with airblast/medigun/jarate/madmilk, assists, teleports, etc

1.) pocket a pyro
2.) pyro-on-pyro flamethrower battle
3.) you now have bazillions of "extinguished teammate (medic)" points and hopefully one more kill assist

I personally think we need to up the point values for things like capping points and defending points, ect. I think you should get more points for capping a point that you ever could for a single kill, regardless of how many more stat points they have. I know some servers give you extra points for killing enemy medics or defending your own medic who is being attacked as well.

are you saying that capping a point should be worth like 25 HLX points, or that they should tone down how many points you can get from killing a dude?

If only we could turn crits on and off on a player-by-player basis.

For instance, I log on to a Slaybox, and enter "!crits_toggle" in chat. I can no longer cause random crits or be damaged by them.

That sort of thing might be possible from a technical standpoint, but in terms of gameplay might be a little awkward and confusing for players, when they shoot a crit and don't know if it'll actually be a crit. In other words it works for people using it but for people not using it it can be confusing.

Say you have crits on for yourself and you shoot a crocket and move on expecting an instant kill, when in reality they had crits off. I don't know but it seems like it could break some aspects of the game a little bit.

the only thing I don't like about that is it may effect the people that have earned crits too. Such as a kritz or a headshot. We should just do server 3 with tf_weapons_critical 0

Yeah, I don't know much about writing plugins, but it seems it would be really hard to do. There are lots of variables to account for, like Kritzkrieg/Jarate/Crit-a-Cola.

If we're talking about having nocrits on the 3rd server, may I suggest no damage spread, as well?

Random crits are not completely random, they are subject to an increasing probability based on how much damage you've done in the last 20 seconds. So that solider who just unloaded a whole rocket clip into that group of enemies on the cart has a much better chance of criting the scout flanking him as he reloads. This does favor classes that can crank out damage in large chunks like solider, demo, sniper and engie. That's why the engie with the level 3 sentry firing away always seems to get a crit wrench on the spy trying to sap his shit.

There is actually a way with a tiny plugin that you could edit the chance of random crits based on a cvar. This way you could set it to a lower percentage if it seems that you get critted a lot. I am not saying that I feel crits are good or bad. Just letting you know what's possible.

The base percentage for getting a melee crit is 15% versus the base for a gun being 2% So you can max out your gun crit % chance at 12% but your melee weapon can go up to 25% chance of criting.

Snipers benefit from this just as engies do. Why do you think the Kukuri (or however that's spelled) is a crit machine? One headshot and you already up your crit % to around 20%

Also, to answer a question earlier about HLstat points, I would keep the kill points the same, but increase the points for objectives. Say move a capture from 5 to 15 points or something, and a defense from 2 up to 10ish. You know, reward people for actually completing the objectives and such.

Turn Random Crits off on the main server please and idc if they are on the other servers. I just want at least 1 server that does not have crits on so I can actually play competitively without luck killing me or another.

but if critsandvich is successful enough there may be a noncrit server
but for now the slayboxes will remain as they are because this is the setting at which they are the most successful.
