Big pet-peave of mine.

by Rologton » Tue Jul 17, 2012 4:18 pm

In all honesty, there is nothing in this game that annoys me more than when I'm playing on a regular server and someone starts spamming chat and alltalk asking for trades. "Selling hats!" "Buying Stranges" "selling x, trade me plz"

I know most people don't seem to care, and there's no actual rule against it, but I'm wondering if there is some precident or anything like that to handle when someone is doing that. As of now all I do is say things like "This isn't a trade server" and tell them that CSn has one and they should go there. Should I just keep saying that and deal with it?

Just to make sure it's clear: I don't mean this to ask if I can go on a banning spree when I see this. I don't want to seem like I'm abusing the admin powers I was just given. I just want to know if there is anything I can do.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.

If that kinda crap gets too hectic, I usually tell em "this isnt a trade server, if you want go to the trade server we have" But sometimes I'll see a trade or two here, then a trade or two there (in chat, etc) and I let that slide cause, well let's be honest here, everyone's gonna trade in a server, trade server or not. Hell I'll do it a couple times. But it's understandable that it can get annoying, and the worst I've done in terms of that issue is kick the guy cause he wasn't listening to me.

If it gets too insane with the chat spammed with trades, just tell them this isn't a trade server, let them know we HAVE a trade server, and that's about it. If they don't listen and they antagonize you, just kick em. I don't find a ban necessary for such a small thing like that.

Taken from the blue admin rules in the help wanted section:

If you see someone spamming the chat with trade requests, inform them of the trade server and warn them to stop spamming.

Most of it depends on my mood. If I see it once I'll usually let it go, but if somebody starts spamming it every few minutes I yell, gag, etc.

Yeah, one or two trades every now and then don't bother me, it's when up you get constant spam in chat and through voice that gets crazy annoying.

I'll just keep doing what I'm doing then.

There's no spam allowed regardless, voice or chat. Warn -> Kick -> Ban

Generally I won't say anything unless they ask more than once, but there are rules against it and people shouldn't do it. Let us know if you see someone doing it

Yeah, I figured a ban or even a kick was too far, I was just wondering what a proper response would be.
