So let me get this straight, you have SteamGuard enabled, have different passwords on your email and Steam account, and never once entered either of those passwords anywhere suspicious or shared them with anyone?

I find that very hard to believe.

Just check the url every time you enter your Steam ID, or better yet, only sign into the official main Steam Store and Community pages, then go to your other site and select "already signed in". If it doesn't work, the site isn't legitimate, and if it does, they have no way to get your information. It will keep you signed in for ages too, so you won't need to keep going back to the main pages too often.

Signing into a fake site is a stupid mistake. It's one that a lot of people make, so it's understandable, but that isn't an excuse; you should always be careful where you enter your password information.

Well, to be fair, I was pissed off and it was 2 am at the time, so I wasn't really paying attention. I hadn't slept for like 25 hour and I just HAD to see this funny forum post. Sadly, I wasn't able to change my PW quickly enough. Protip: Keep your e-mail PW seperate from everything else. Hell, just have all the sites you actually care about have exclusive passwords for each. Nothing hurts more than someone stealing you're Battle.net ID and also getting your paypal, facebook, gmail, and steam ID.

That's a reason, but it's not an excuse. Entering your password without checking first is like crossing the street without looking for cars; all the reasons in the world won't help you if you get hit.

Also, please tell me this was before Steamguard? Using the same password for Gmail, AND Steam, AND Paypal is reckless (borderline suicidal) enough, but using the same password for Gmail and Steam after the introduction of Steamguard is almost criminally negligent.

All he got my hands on was the Steam and Gmail. At the time (pre Steam Guard), you needed both to reset Steam PWs. And no, I didn't lose my FB, B.Net, Steam, and GMail. All I lost was my steam for a bit and I had to change both my steam and gmail PWs. My friend, however, lost EVERYTHING. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, XBL, PSN, Steam, Paypal, Gmail, fucking everything. Needless to say, he ain't dumb enough to use a very poor variation on password as a password ever again.

That sounds like a huge mess for him. At least he learned better password security from it, though.

I just looked through your item history on TF2items. You never once owned any of those unusuals. The only unusual you've had recently is the Ol' Snaggletooth. Why isn't that on your mentioned "hacked unusuals"?

What are you trying to pull?

tbf, he's had a pyro beanie and a few others at various points...

...but the evidence remains valid. I've checked his history, and the listed unusuals he did have hadn't even been in his backpack for more than a day. He also doesn't seem to lose anything near the corresponding value of these hats when they appear for that brief time; they just pop into his backpack and then pop right back out.

Yeah when I was hacked, I did admit I did enter a password in a place that seemed real. Shit happens. But thing I dont find odd is that his "hacker" moved it to another account and made it identical. That just doesnt make any sense to me.

Did I mention that the way I caught rager's hacker and got him banned from tf2tp and was able to track his account is because he posted in tf2tp?

Nearly all hackers arent in it for the hats, theyre in it for profit. So they use big trading site/servers to sell hats for promos really cheap. Then those promos for Paypal.

K then ill go through the process if July 26tg as much as i can. Ok i wake up, it is aroound 9 A.M. So i turn on the computer excited for a day of trading unusuals and when i get on TF2tp, i notice my stuff is missing(unusuals,V Pillar, and my Strange weapons) I into TF2items.com search up CoRe*Jags and i see a person with my unusuals. I check my BP CoRe*Jags |CSn and see i am missing the stuff that he has. ( I accidentally found his BP actually, I meant to type the |CSn in my name but forgot, so lucky break). Then i get ingame and all my unusuals *Logo Milkman, Burning Noir, Burning Belt, P. Energy Ten Gallon, G energy Merry, and ghosts Prancers are gone. I was scared cause i had been hacked. So i write a ticket to steam support and they still havent answered me back. So ya i wouldnt make this crap up, this is serious. Thx for all who have helped me, Have a nice day :)

its just usually hackers change the password to your account so you cant even log back in and then set your account to private
then they trade the items to another account thats set to private
plus they dont usually use the person they hacked screen name and avatar because that only makes it more obvious

Yeah when I was hacked. My account was made private. Avatar and name changed. Then moved to an account also set private. They wouldnt copy the account they just hacked and they wouldnt leaved the hacked account with the same password. They almost always change it. Also talking through experience.

No real reason NOT to keep the account; you delay the ability of Steam Support to analyze and respond to your case (since they don't know for sure whose account it really is and need to verify), and you get your target's entire Friends list to exploit and potentially loot.

I think "Rager" asked Patrid if he could borrow a set of earbuds after he was hacked, if I recall.

I use the Password Hasher extension for Firefox/Chrome. Works very nicely to generate different passwords for your accounts. I started using it after the Sony hacking incidents started.

Oh, so you let your easily-accessed web browser contain/store/make the passwords for almost every major activity you do?

I'm one to talk. I have all my passwords saved into Firefox's password memory because I cbf to type those bastards in every time I re-visit a site.

No, Password Hasher doesn't keep the passwords. It requires a master password that gets hashed to the other sites, that only I know.
