So...who's got the game(s)? What do you think of it, so far?

Also, if you want to share your friend code with everyone, post them below.

So far, I'm really liking X. It feels like a major improvement for the series, as compared to previous games. Sure, there's less new Pokemon compared to other entries, but didn't we get a shit ton of them in Black/White to make up for it, anyways? But either way, I find my interest in the current series renewed now, from this game. Worth a purchase, definitely.

I have x as well.
I am really liking it so far, i didn't really like black and white, it didn't keep my interest for that long and felt stagnant.
But this game makes up for it.

Got pokemon Y and loveeee it. Just finished the 6th gym and I can say that the spacing from beginning game to second gym is extreeeemely long.
very fun stuff! 16 hours clocked hehe, My eyes hurt from playing literally the whole day yesterday
I like the art style though i will miss the old kind... Pokemon Gale of Darkness and Pokemon Coliseum will always be my favorite art style for a Pokemon game

Enjoying it so far. Seems to be a big improvement over the previous ones. Especially the experience for catching pokemon. Still only on the second gym though. Life keeps me really busy, even on the weekends.

I'm actually trying to evolve this kadabra I have. If anyone feels like helping me with that, feel free to add me. FC is 5086-1910-6752. Or just add me to say hi. Wish I had time to be on csn more.

I was amazingly lucky and got infected with pokerus on route five. If anyone wants some, I'd be happy to trade them a carrier. Especially if they'd help me get my alakazam, my favorite poke of all time. :)

Thomas Jefferson told me to pick X, and so far I'm loving it. I had to wipe 30 fluid ounces of semen off my screen after watching the video, but after calming down I started enjoying some changes.

I'm not sure I like the upgrade to the Exp. Share.

I gotta say, I am loving my Pokemon X. I'm really happy with my team (Raichu(Peaches), Rhydon(Chief) Hawlucha(Inca), Chesnaught(Alpha), Blastoise(Azure), and Barry(Kadabra)), and I really love Pokemon-Amie. It's really fun to play with your Pokemon, and the in-battle effects like extra dialogue("Good job Chief! I knew you could do it!") and boosted experience points(so useful) make me love my Pokes even more. The game can be a bit slow for the first 3 gyms, but it appears to speed up after that. I have 5 badges now and my team is around level 50 now. Odin, how about we trade Kadabras to evolve them? My FC's 5125-0088-8584.

One very important thing to know is that there is a known glitch in the retail version. DO NOT SAVE STANDING OUTSIDE IN LUMIOSE CITY. It may cause a glitch that causes the game to freeze, and the only way to fix it is by restarting your file. This bug is most commonly seen if you save next to things like the taxis. I don't know if it exists on digital downloads, though. Link to video- here.

I used to be pretty conflicted about the exp share but after finishing the game and some after game stuff I found that it really balanced my team.
It's also super easy to max out stats (not sure if the punching bad thing correlates with EV's haven't been researching or paying attention to that stuff much

So. I found a pretty large amount of references to things in Pokemon Y, references for sure but innuendos or just older fans that interpret things differently we'll never know
I'll start with two examples
first, the first psychic trainer you meet makes a joke about some power level being over 9000
second, at the elite four, the fire elite person's room is called, "The Blazing Chamber" I kinda laughed at that one
there are a few more off the top of my head but i was wondering if you guys saw any more

There's also Youngster Joey from Gold/Silver in the very early game, along with the shorts kid from Red/Blue later on. I have yet to find a Preston, though. (because I'm in every Pokemon game >:O)

Thank you Nikki!
and back to the references part, If you go into the very middle pokemon center in Lumiose city, the girl sitting on the right says "The famous Prfessor Oak's grandson came here to the Kalos region to study abroad. He got 'bonjour' down fine, but he always said 'smell ya later!' when he left!"
And this isn't a reference but when i battled at cafe ultima (also in Lumiose) the first two battles were against the owner of the cafe and after the first battle he said something about adoring the way I used my pokemon to fight then after the second he said how beautiful it was again then he said "Huff... hnng... agg..." (grunting noises) And the waiter that came out to battle next said that the owner had to go to the hospital due to an emergency. I'm assuming a gave him a heart attack by accident :o

If you don't mind spoilers, here are all the Megas.

And if anyone can tell me where to find Gardevoite or whatever, that'd be great, because Serebii says it's from a traded Ralts in a cafe on Southern Boulevard in Lumiose. But I've been in all 3 or 4 and haven't found anyone trading a Ralts.

To get Gardevoite (and the other mega stones) you first need to get your mega ring upgraded. To do this, you must beat the E4, then battle at the Battle Maison in Kiloude City a bit (I did 7 battles). After that, head to the north part of the city (with the pool of water) and find your rival there, who challenges you to a battle with her/his mega Absol. After you win, she/he gives you Absolite and tells you to go meet Professor Hot Dad, err, I mean Professor Sycamore at the sundial in Anistar City. You must speak to him and he upgrades your mega ring, and your search for mega stones begins.

After you've done this, then go to one of the cafes on the south boulevard and trade Pokemon with Diantha. Her Ralts hold Gardevoite, and she'll accept any Pokemon. Hope that helps! For locations of all the other known mega stones, click here. It's a very good guide.

Pssh, I'd still use use male Gardevior. Anyway, if the nature's right, you could make it into Gallade. It is a little weird to see very masculine/feminine Pokemon of the opposite gender, but it really doesn't matter unless you're breeding. Personally, I prefer female Pokemon, and I think that's because a lot of 'good' Pokemon (starters, Eeveelutions, fossils) are more likely to be male, and having a female is kinda special. Just my two cents on that topic. Also, here's shiny mega Gengar for those interested-

Also, on those leaks, they seem legit, but I'm holding out until an official reveal. Also, those mega evolutions are thought to be fake because they don't have the mega evolution symbol next to their names. I searched those new Pokemon on the GTS as the article suggested, but nothing came up.

how do you catch a 2nd stage starter

Also, in case you haven't heard, Nintendo has released a downloadable patch for X and Y, which fixes the Lumiose City saving bug, as well as an issue with the GTS.
Which lead me to ponder this question: Will Pokemon X and Y be the first ever Pokemon games to host downloadable content? If they can release a patch, they could very well sell DLC.

Knees, can I have one of your baby Ralts to evolve into Gallade? I'll give you a Zoroark that I named Lamp. (I can rename it back for you.)

And Sanic, stop catching shinies before my jelly gland bursts.

So, if Game Freak released DLC, what additions would you like to see?

Honestly, if there was ever to be Pokemon DLC, it would just most likely be legendary/event/hard to get Pokemon, maybe with a special held item. Nintendo's done online and IRL promotions before, so I guess DLC isn't too much of a stretch. Pokemon Bank is a paid service (after a certain date), and it may spark more paid DLC/services for other Nintendo titles. I wouldn't want to pay for shit, though because I'm cheap.

Shiny Charizard. Woo yeah. I don't lie.

Yay, Pokerus! Just remember, Pokerus doesn't apply to Super Training. I would totally raise that shiny Gible. If you want people to know it's from X/Y, give it a nickname with 11 or 12 characters. Previous gens only allow up to 10 characters in nicknames. Just a thought. Also, if you plan on EV training, use the friend safaris or use Super Training.

I'm about to get Pokemon Y and a new 3DS (possibly the Pikachu version or Zelda Version). What things should I expect from this game, and, what are the best Pokemon to get early in the game? I only want tips, not for you to go to guides...

Do you mean the special edition 3DS? I have the Pikachu one, and I love it. There's a tiny scratch on one of his cheeks, but whatever. X and Y are awesome, definitely worth the $40. Personally, I thought the game was easier than previous titles because of the Pokemon Amie effects, most notably the 20% exp. point boost. By the time you reach the E4, your team is around level 70/80, and that's about where the champion's Pokemon are (their best Pokemon is about lv 75ish if I recall). The experience of going through the region seeing brand new Pokemon as well as old favorites is great. You can catch Pikachu and other Kanto favorites early in the game. For your team, I suggest a Pokemon that can learn fly, and a Pokemon that can learn surf as the basics. Other than that, the rest is up to you, but I suggest keeping your types balanced. Talonflame and Hawlucha are great flyers. For surf I used Blastoise/Rhydon, but there's a lot of water types that can learn it like Gyarados and Golduck. You can catch Eevee at level 20 after the 2sd gym, so think about an Eeveelution. You can also catch Snorlax very early in the game, as well as Kangaskan and Honedge (Steel/Ghost). Just my two cents here.

You also get a free lucario+mega stone for him and lapras decently leveled when you reach mid 30s to 40s so you dont really have to worry much about keeping those bases covered early game

It's hard to get used to the addition of Fairy type to Gardevoir, but I highly recommend raising a Ralts to one. It'll be hard to raise it until it evolves past Kirlia due to lack of strong moves, but once you get the Dazzling Gleam (new 80-pwr Fairy move) TM from the 6th gym, she's a powerhouse.

Also, I can now join you guys in the group of lucky mofos who have caught a shiny.

I've mostly been playing on the train to and from work so I'm progressing through the game relatively slowly. It doesn't help that I can't keep track of all the Pokemon and types since this is my first Pokemon video game, as a kid I only ever played the card game since my parents didn't believe in owning video game consoles.

That seems like a pretty nice team! The first three gyms take a while, and the rest of the game you just breeze through.
Also, my friend caught 3 shinies today- Octillery, Skrep and Dragalage. He caught them all while chain fishing, which is something I've been meaning to try... I would like a shiny Clauncher, Relicanth or Poliwhirl/wrath/toed. Shiny Clauncher looks rad-

I would have picked a different starter (for Kalos or Kanto), though you can get the other starters through trading and Friend Safaris, anyways. The other Mega Stones for the Kanto starters are at a shop in Lumiose City, with the price depending on how famous you are, in the city.

If your Pikachu's level 50 or above, evolve it with a Thunder Stone for better stats (Raichu doesn't learn moves from leveling, so it's best to evolve after 50). Other than that, I think this looks alright. Just whatever works for you.

I decided that since Pokemon's a game for kids I could afford to play by picking pokemon I thought were cool - on that note, I'll leave this Pikachu a Pikachu because that's just how I roll B-). Also post game I intend to do some research on what pokemon are actually available and build a real team so I can beat y'all.

EV training ain't bad, it's breeding and checking IVs that's really tedious. Everstones have a higher change of passing on their nature, and the Destiny Knot is now guaranteed to pass on 5 random IVs, but breeding is still a pain because you get a lot of Pokemon you don't really want, and it's annoying to find a Pokemon's exact IVs with a calculator.

Have fun training that Larvesta to level 59. He'll see the Elite Four before he becomes a Volcarona probably.

The game has been a lot of fun! I'm familiar enough with Pokemon to feel obligated to fill the Pokedex but it certainly seems like a daunting task. I was fishing for dratini yesterday and caught a shiny (red) basculin, but basculin isn't particularly interesting to me (he doesn't even grow up to be a giant dragon serpent thing) so I wonder traded it and got a tirtouga whose prior owner will hopefully enjoy the shiny basculin.

You can definitely fill up a lot of the National Pokedex with Friend Safaris and trades, though there are some Pokemon locked behind the Bank, which doesn't open up until late December. It's $5 for that, another $25-40 if you don't have Black/White/Black 2/White 2, and another fee if you haven't got any Gen 3 or 4 games. Event Pokemon, the only way you can get them now is by cheating, which may not seem fair, but it's our only option.

Hey, what are EVs and IVs and what the heck to they stand for? Effort and Inherent Values? I'm gonna start working on an EV-Trained team soon which will include a Metagross and likely a Garchomp and a Gardevoir. But I'm only just now getting into this. I almost did in Black, but it bored me.

Yes, EVs stand for effort values, but I think IVs stand for individual values. Long-ass post ahead, so beware.

EVs increase a Pokemon's stats, like attack or defense. For example, if you cloned a Pokemon and raised one with EVs and one without, the EV trained Pokemon would have higher stats even though the Pokemon are exactly the same. EVs are earned through battles or Super Training, or be given through vitamins like HP Up and Iron. Each Pokemon gives 1, 2, or 3 EVs in one (or sometimes more) stat[s]. The EV(s) given are 90% of the time that Pokemon's highest base stat. For example, Pidgey's highest stat is speed, so upon defeat (or capture in 6th gen) it gives 1 speed EV. An evolved Pokemon gives one extra EV for each stage of evolution. For example, Pidgeotto, the evolved form of Pidgey, has the highest base stat in speed, so it gives 2 speed EVs. And Pidgeot, the final form of Pidgey, has the highest base stat in speed, so it gives 3 speed EVs. To be sure of the EVs a Pokemon gives, check a site like Serebii or Bulbapedia. (I think Bulbapedia is a little slow to add EVs to 6th gen Pokemon, so use Serebii.) Friend Safari's are great for EV training. Just check the EVs each Pokemon found in the Safari gives. If all 2 (or 3) all give the same EV, it's great for quick EV training. Plus, you have the chance of finding shinies. I found all my shinies in the Friend Safaris. To check your Pokemon's EVs, go to the Super Training screen and check the chart. It's not perfect, but it gives you an idea of where it's EVs are. To see if a stat is maxed out, do an easy training regimen in that stat and see if the stat increases or not. A Pokemon can have only 510 EVs in total, and can only have 255 EVs in one stat, so spend your EVs carefully. EVs can be removed with special berries like the Hondew berry. To get those berries, you need to cross-breed your berries. Click here for more info on cross-breeding your berries. GREAT EV list, but only up to 5th gen. Check Serebii otherwise.

While EVs can be changed, IVs can not. IVs are assigned to a Pokemon from it's hatching or it's capture. IVs are values assigned to each stat that increase the stat by that number, similar to EVs. IVs range from a 'prefect' 31 to 0. For example, say you had two Pokemon that were exactly the same except for their IVs, and they are both brought to level 100 with no EVs. One Pokemon has all 31 IVs, while the other has all 0 IVs. The Pokemon's IVs would easily be seen, as the Pokemon's stats will differ, and the Pokemon with 31 IVs will have stats that are 31 points higher than the other. (Say the 'perfect' Pokemon's attack stat was 131. The 0 IV Pokemon's attack stat would be only 100. Pretty big difference.) Caught Pokemon have all random IVs, except Pokemon caught in the Friend Safari. Pokemon caught in the Friend Safari have guaranteed two 'perfect' IVs of 31. IVs are shown by the little phrase on the Pokemon's summary, like 'Capable of taking hits' or 'Somewhat vain.' The phrases 'likes to thrash about' (attack), 'capable of taking hits' (defense), 'takes plenty of siestas' (often dozes off in previous generations)(HP), 'mischievous (special attack), 'somewhat vain' (special defense), and 'alert to sounds' (speed) may indicate a 'prefect' IV in that stat (or more!). (Click here for more on characteristics) To check if the stat is prefect, go to the guy dressed in purple in Kildoude City in the Pokemon center. He will 'judge the potential' of your Pokemon and tell you their IVs. If he says the stat(s) 'Can't be beat,' the IV is prefect. Congratulations! To pass on IVs through breeding (they won't carry on without these items-the offspring will have completely random IVs otherwise), you can use the Destiny Knot or the Power items (Power Anklet, Power Lens, etc.). When the Pokemon holds the Destiny Knot, 5 IVS will be randomly passed down to the offspring. When the Pokemon holds a Power, only the one stat is guaranteed to pass on. To check all a Pokemon's IVs, you need a calculator like this one. There's no 6th gen one yet though. I find level 20 is about right for accurately checking IVs.

Quick shit on Natures. A Pokemon's nature increases a stat by x1.5, and decreases a stat by x1.5, except for neutral natures (quirky, hardy, serious, bashful, docile-avoid these.). For example, Adamant nature increases the attack stat and decreases the attack stat. So, Adamant natures are desirable on Pokemon with high attack stats like Rampardos, but not on Pokemon with low attack stats like Alakazam. Natures are randomly assigned to wild Pokemon, unless you use the Synchronize trick. If your lead Pokemon has the ability Synchronize, then all wild Pokemon you meet have a 50% chance of having that same nature (good for catching legendaries or wild shinies from chains with a good nature). Natures can be passed down through breeding if either parent holds an Everstone. To see the effect of each nature, go here.

And that's about it. Sorry it's so long, but there's a lot to say on this subject. Serebii's and Bulbapedia's explanations are a little hard to understand, so I did it the best I could. Feel free to see how they explain it, though.

Friend Code is 3050 8120 6640
I chose X as my game because apparently everyone around me wanted y. I would like to say that I'm decent at battling but truly i am not.
To caber or not to caber, that is the question.
Seriously though what am I supposed to put here?
