if someone has a bigger gun than you, attempt to kill them
remember that you need to eat/drink to stay alive
if you see someone with military/high-tier weapons, chances are they aren't hunting zombies
trust no one
if you hear flies buzzing, there might be a dead player around
don't run through towns
cherno and elektro are great places to start, but be warned, you might be sniped at these locations
don't swim in the water, you might lose all your gear
trust no one
these are all the tips that i could come up with from the top of my head

I think "soon" is a bit of a misnomer.

I lurve this game. 
Don't confuse that statement with, "I am good at this game," or anything akin to that.
Link to the article that convinced me to buy the requisite game + expansion to play DayZ
On a kind of relevant note, Operation Arrowhead multiplayer is really fun. I tried some group-vs-AI maps that were fantastic. They used the ACE and ACRE mods, which allow increased realism, including a VOIP that functions like a real radio. I generally despise realistic shooters, but I've been having a blast with this one.
