More custom maps on the slayboxes!

I think this server needs to embrace the TF2maps.net community, and start hosting some finished good maps. There's loads of them, and we can even make a weekly event out of them! I don't know a lot about server scripting, but I'm sure we can set up a "custom hour" where the entire rotation is replaced by custom maps. This could have the adverse effect of killing the server because (lets face it) no one really wants to download new maps. Maybe we could turn slaybox 2 into a custom map server? Its always dead anyway.

Weekly event idea sounds great. Maybe have some shoutcasting for a couple of rounds on Fridays to attract people?

I would love to use more custom maps on CSn. If we can start populating SB2 more I can help promote it on my YouTube and shtuff.

We could also make certain maps unavailable for play on SB2. I dream of no more hightower, dustbowl, twofort, egypt, and a couple others I can't name off the top of my head.

These would be good custom maps.

I wouldn't necessarily call funbox custom maps bad maps, they're just non-competitive. Also funbox is generally for non-standard gameplay maps. The slaybox custom maps would simply be new payload/capture point/etc maps, like some of those used in lobbies and competitive play like croissant and barnblitz_pro

I suggested the opposite in the admin forums. I thought it'd be best to have SB2 just rotating the top 4 or 5 maps that play over and over on SB1 in an effort to get the people that strictly wanna play those maps to go to SB2 since we have no issues popping SB1. Then we'd play more of the lesser played stock maps, so it's win win for everyone. No one liked the idea.

I'm all for this. The thing is though we tried adding some competitive and non standard maps to the rotation previously but the server just doesn't have enough players on it to make it worthwhile. I've tried to pop it but it is pretty hard. Plus it seems as soon as a nonstandard map comes up everyone just quits before even trying it out. Guess people don't like change.

Weekly events, shoutcasting, or some sort of contest/giveaway would be an interesting way to attract players.

This is an interesting idea, it would be worth testing to see if it could be implemented. It seems no one really wants to move from SB1 though, and SB1 is more or less our "recruitment" server so it seems to almost be better to have SB1 be the top 5 maps rotating and advertise "want to play different maps, !hop on over to SB2". Recruit on SB1, siphon them to SB2. SB1 is like the "home base" new community members go to consistently, it's how they find us and keep staying with us. Making SB2 be the top 5 rotation would be like trying to move that home base and would be too confusing.

Problem with trying to run two slayboxes is it seems we don't have enough players to do so, or perhaps we do but we don't have the coordination nor dedication of our player base to populate a second one.

Another tangent: I haven't paid too close attention to the little pop-ups/announcements given by critsandvich in game, but does it still occasionally say what a given server is playing and how many are there. Like a little popup in chat or otherwise with "Slaybox 2, cp_foundry, 6/24" followed by "type !hop to change servers". I remember something like that was common and was something I used often to switch between SB1, SB2, and Westbox when they were playing a map I'd prefer to be on.

Replace -
Badwater with Badwater Pro
Barnblitz with Barnblitz Pro
Viaduct with Viaduct Pro

Maps would be different enough to add variety and attract new players, but still be similar enough for the server not to turn into a ghost town when one comes up.

Great list! Glad to see some good maps coming to SB2. However, there's one map on here needs to definitely be removed, koth_ultiduo. Its meant for the ultiduo gamemode, which is one medic and one soldier vs another medic / soldier combo, so its only built for 4 people. No hp or health or anything.

I would also encourage removing ramjam, sunshine, and follower, but that's just my fickle opinion.

Based on this list, you'll want to take out the following: Ultiduo because it's designed for 2v2 duels, not actual server playing, and granary_pro because while it is more balanced competitive wise,e it kills the aesthetic of vanilla granary. I'm not really a fan of ramjam or mangrove either, though that is just personal preference.
