Flamethrower did not need a buff

by MamaWeegee » Thu Jun 28, 2012 9:44 pm

3 reasons why

1. It basically is a backburner now with airblasts.

2. It makes the other weapons (especially backburner) useless.

3. Pyro was already extremely powerful.

Thank you that is all. I will take no arguments seeing as these are facts.

Every class in this game is overpowered if used correctly.

Namely medic.
What do you mean syringes don't go there? I am the doctor here... they go where I say they go.

1. It does not get crits from behind, so no.

2. Not really. I still use the Degreaser, as will many others, for the Puff and Sting.

3. lel

The Flamethrower was almost obsolete before this update, it definitely needed this buff.

I rarely see pyros get the crits from damage behind. It's usually a head on charge. It didn't need the buff because it already did decent damage. Other weapons needed buffs/nerfs before the flamethrower.

Just because someone misuses a weapon doesn't mean its plus side is moot. It did need a buff because there was no point in using it. Puff and Stinging was much more powerful than anything the Flamethrower could do, and if you wanted damage, you would just switch to the BB.

Actually, this isn't a buff, it's a reversion of a past nerf.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.

It is now like walking into a firing Heavy if you turn the corner right into a flaming Pyro.

The flamers have a fraction of the Minigun's DPS.

To anyone bitching about it, please. Before hand, the flamethrower was shit. The pyro has been consistently nerfed since launch, with the only real buffs being the addition of new weapons and the airblast. Everything else has been a nerf. It's high time the guy/girl/robot got an actual buff that actually did something.

You see a certain tactic with good pryos (ie medkitz, myself) here's a guide.

Layout for the guide:
Degreaser
Shotgun if you can't aim with flares or you hate pyros/ Flare gun if youre medkitz
Axtinguisher

1. Set on fire.
2. Airblast (against a wall helps, but the airblast is for the person not being able to have controlled movement)
3. Switch weapons to axtinguisher
4. Hit the target with the ax.

If done correctly, this takes less than two seconds.
I would post a video of me doing it, but I'm lazy.

If you want to go wm1 pyro, don't expect your kdr to be much higher than 1.

You see a certain tactic with better pryos (ie myself) here's a guide.

Layout for the guide:
Degreaser
Reserve Shooter (mini-critz everywhere)
God Hates Phlogs Sign

1. Ignore the fire, its a crutch.
2. Airblast (Straight into the air like a bird)
3. Switch weapons to reserve shooter
4. Mini-Crit the target 3 times
5. Rekt
6. High Five Taunt

P.S. This is a joke, I am goddamn terrible at this game

You see a certain tactic with better pryos (ie me (VGTG)) here's a guide.

Layout for the guide:
Rainblower
Shotgun
Homewrecker
(op tional but very helpful) Unusual and/or Balloonicorn (must be nametagged & painted)

1. set everything on bubbles to distract them
2. hitscan everything to death like a pro
3. depending on the situation, go brown nose your medic or engineer because they are way more important than you
4. have your hat/buddy carry you to victory
5. HAIL MOLOCH

P.S. this is not a joke i am troo invite proro

I'm impartial because its not even much of a buff, it's just 10% of a low number to begin with. If I'm mathing correctly then 10% of 7 is a whole one less damage per particle (rounded up).

In regards to the backburner doing equal damage now, back crits were always the key to success with that weapon; personally I think ambushing is the only way to play pyro effectively with just using the primary weapon, which 90%ish of pyros don't do and rely more on all their weapon slots to get kills.

If you're really good, you can kill a non over-healed heavy in 3 seconds with a puff of fire, flare crit, and an axe swing

True, but if that Heavy is good at tracking than his 500 DPS can kill you in less than a second. You need to catch him way off guard.

I mean, how often does that work against somebody like Skul or Userjjb when they're playing Heavy?

Edit: Relevent.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.
