HLStatsX unreliable

by userjjb » Sun May 13, 2012 11:54 am

While in the past HLStatsX has occasionally been laggy for a couple hours, it's always sorted itself out. However for the past 1-1.5 months or so it has worked only infrequently. If you look at the "Sessions" section of any player's profile you'll see what I mean; people will play for hours and HLStatsX won't log any actions, kills, etc.

I recall that Benny said something about reinstalling it once he's done with his exams, but it's been so damn slow.

I don't care so much about the points as being able to track stats, but it is nice to have some sense of accomplishment that persists longer than one round.

The stats have been updated and completely reinstalled. They should be faster now, and less buggy.

Also, if the stats are faster, the trade server and website will also be faster, since they were bogged down by the billions of crazy hlstatsx queries.

I also wonder if the fact that the westbox #2 was still on there was causing any slowdowns... In any case it's an upgrade from version 13 to 15, so that's good.

Also, remember you'll have to fetch new signatures.

The "Forum" link on the stats page redirects back to stats now instead of to the forum.

Seems Like Stats Started Acting up again over the weekend. It seems very delayed. The stats site seems to be behind as well. It States the last time I connected was the 21st but I played all weekend. However, my signature seems to be correct. Just a heads up since people were asking about it this weekend on Westbox.

My stats are fine, but one weird thing I have noticed, is that my Trend Graph never shows, and it hasn't shown in a long time. Any reason or wonder why?

Yeah.. After closer look, it looks like everything is up to date but the connect thing so maybe it was just sluggish this weekend.

i'm pretty sure hlstatsx is borked at least a little bit. there was a stretch where it worked great last night (for about 3 hours) but over the past 4 days there's about a 20-30 minute delay with at least 80% of my actions not registering.

just pulling off my sessions list:
2012-05-26 time played: 0d 00:48:19h 4kills 2deaths

i'm pretty sure i didn't play for 50 minutes and only go 4-2 D:

I'm looking into it now. I don't see any problems myself currently, looking at HLSW, but I'll try to see if I can find a problem to fix.

EDIT: There is a new version of HLSTATSX released on the 20th, that I missed due to me being on vacation! It's 12AM here right now so I can't do it just yet, but I'll get it updated tomorrow (Austria time, so early in the morning for most of you guys). Hopefully this will solve the problem--I looked in the logs and the stats were running but not reporting kills occasionally.

FWIW it was working fine earlier today (1130 -> 1230). it is definitely intermittent when it starts and stops working D:

Okay, I've installed the latest version of the stats now. Please let me know if there are further problems. Hopefully the bug fixes in this release have solved all the problems we were having.

Okay, I did a little snooping around in the logs, and it turns out that the BingBot is at fault (as far as I can see). It's been diligently indexing every possible HLSTATSX page, which is essentially infinite, and has been doing so with at least 3 of its bots. I added a robots.txt as well as several .htaccess files to restrict what it's able to do on the stats page. Now the CPU load is much more reasonable and I think that should solve the problems.

Still, I'm going to enable logging for the next couple of days to see if there are other problems I haven't been catching.
