I am testing a new voting system for maps. Instead of listing maps to vote for there will be two waves of votes. The first map vote will have the following categories:
"5 Capture Point Maps"
"Capture point"
"Payload"
"Capture the Flag"
"King of the Hill"
"Payload Race"
"Hydro!!!!!"
So there are 7 different choices in the first menu when it comes up. The 5 point capture point maps have 5 points, are symmetric in nature i.e. granary, badlands. The other capture point maps are like junction or dustbowl where they might have an odd number of points and are not symmetric. I think the other choices are self explanatory. After the first vote is made, the second vote will consist of the maps that coincide with that definition. The maps are weighted based on the votes made by our critsandvich citizens who were kind enough to give their opinions in the forums.
Another import change is that a group such as a payload map cannot come up for vote until 2 other map types are played. If goldrush is played, it cannot be played again until after two other types of maps are played. This will change the repetition of playing 24/7 payload. I actually enjoy playing payload, but I am not going to force people to not play a payload, feel free to nominate another payload if you wish.
I hope these changes will be positive. This is only exploratory so if this doesn't work out we can go back to the old way of voting.
One more important change to discuss: Slaybox 2 crits. I installed a crit mod on slaybox 2 to help populate the server by giving it a higher matchmaking score. Random crits will be on by default, but when a player joins they will be asked their opinion of crits/nocrits. Each round/map will have another vote at the start. When you are asked if you want random crits on/off you can permanently choose no random crits or random crits and the server will remember your choice and automatically vote it for you unless you disable it again. I think this option will help populate the server when there isn't anyone on. When 10 or more players are on, random crits will be turned off.
