i've mentioned that i used to be a top qwtf clanner... only a couple of maps have survived since those days, most notably well and 2fort. both kinda crappy maps.
the best map in qwtf, that required the best strategy, was called canalzone. it was the forerunner of today's maps, where instead of being straight capture the flag, you would pick up a flag in your base that would halve your movement speed, and carry it to a point, and as long as your team held the point after it was capped you got a point per second.
the map was asymmetrical and each team had superior access to a certain set of points, with a good midfight as well.
i've never made a map before, but i imagine that if canalzone were redone, it could gain some traction in the community both because of its historic chops and because it was simply a very well made map.
i also know that those of you who make maps are busy with your own projects right now.. however, if you would be even mildly interested in at some point recreating canalzone, i would really love to help/be in on that project. i believe it could be widely played and would also be a meaningful, varied addition to tf2 gameplay. i don't know if preserving the halved movespeed would be either possible or desirable, however, the map could easily be done without that. it's really far more similar to the good maps out there today than 2fort or well is.
please do this for me, i will be forever grateful.
