I hate how Valve desperatly tries to convince people that F2P people are good and welcomed players. Did any else read their official announcement concerning the "No F2P Player Mod"? They said people who actually want to ban F2P players from their servers are a small and idiotic (maybe not in these terms, but still) minority. And now they make a tournament for F2P players...

I hate feeling like they want to make F2P players believe they are welcomed in regular TF2 servers. I mean... No matter on what server I go, I almost always end up hearing comments about F2P players, the new TF2 "noobs", sooner or later. If I miss a backstab I can occasionaly hear people say "What? You F2P?" -.-

I'm not expressing my personal opinion on the matter. Just my observations. Personally, I have nothing against F2P players (like our recently added David who seems really nice even though I've not seen him play yet), but it IS fun to laugh at some of them at times... It's also fun to help some of them out if they aren't being douches.

Yeah, boo them for wanting their new, potential customers to feel welcome.

Do they have to hide the reality so desperatly to the community to make F2P players feel welcomed? I mean you only have to play one hour of TF2 to get the chance to notice the reputation of F2P players...

Even though it's just me, I don't like lies. :/

I'd be happier if Valve just said "Shut up, whiners! We just wanted to make more money and want more customers!"

But yeah, Valve's just a company after all... Of course they'd want more money. Of course they are ready to skillfully play with words to their advantage... *sighs*

I think it's roughly the same deal as players who got the halo, who (or didn't), both groups of which were heavily criticized for months after it was given out. I mean, eventually, most tf2 players will probably be F2P, and by that time the current complainers have no choice but to be in the minority, and will probably be labeled cranky oldbies. I think most people really don't mind the presence of F2P players in the long run, it's just that the announcement so profoundly altered the general experience level of players online at any given time, they're pissed that (in some views) they now unnecessarily spent money on a product, and that their experience of that product how now suddenly changed without their consent. The former argument is dumb in the long-run unless you baught the game like, less than a month beforehand, I know I was kinda pissed when I bought my gamecube a week before it dropped to $99... but the latter will slowly change over time as the new players either get better or leave, catching up with the rest of us as they familiarize themselves with the game and settle into the niche of their natural FPS skill level.

Regarding the actual topic of this thread, I thought that update was kinda lulzy.

Yes, because there are some assholes out there who are too good for "noobs". I'm one of the few who actually liked the idea of TF2 going F2P, and I also owned 2 TF2 accounts before it went F2P. By TF2 going F2P it will open up to more people, valve will end up making more money to make the game better, and our community will benefit as well. Matter of fact a good example is David. Will there be some F2P jerks, hackers ect? Yep, but admins can deal with them easily, and its not like we haven't had them regardless of the game being F2P

This man speaks truth. David is easily one of the nicest and coolest players to come along in recent memory. Admin material, for sure.

I am tired of being labeled a f2p. Fine, I do not actually own the game or have a premium account, but that does not mean that I am a bad player. In fact, I think I am better than I decent portion of the regulars. The whole f2p thing is just annoying to listen to, and I look forward to it all washing over.
