(Un)Official CritSandvich Skins for TF2

by Techercizer » Sun May 29, 2011 2:42 am

Had the idea tonight. Seems like it'd be fun to do. What weapons would you like to see retextured with a CritSandvich theme? Post your ideas here!

My first thoughts are not-so-coincidentally biased towards weapons I've been working on lately:

- An Ambassador skin with a Sandvich in place of Scout's Mother

- A knife reskin of some sort that plays "Om Nom Nom" on a successful backstab

Now tell me what you'd like to see... go!

A simple character reskin that replaces the class logo on the upper arm with a Sandvich. A little subtle, but it's a nice effect.
This one is would take a little bit more work, but you ever heard of Sandwich-in-a-can? Well, I'm sure that a having some Critsandvich-in-a-can would put out some minicrits (hint: Crit-a-Cola reskin).
That's all I got atm.

EDIT: Oh, and, although it might look cheap, but any weapon would look nicer with a CSn sticker stuck on there.

After doing a little graphic design to get the logo, making character reskins should be a breeze. Canned CritSandvich would be tougher to do, as I'd need a whole art style, colour theme, inspiration...etc. It's doable, but I don't really know what it is.

I doubt I'll just be sticking CSN stickers on any weapons though; I do have some integrity. CSN engravings, on the other hand... now those I could see about...

I'm sure one of our more artistically inclined would help with the Canned Critsandvich.

Made me lol. :)

Engraved CSn logos on all weapons seems like a great idea to me! I dunno if it's possible, but since our community is Critsandvich, you should do something really special with the Sandvich... Though I have nothing to propose for that. lol

The character reskins should be simple at my opinion. I suggest that you keep BLU and RED as they are but that you add something on their costumes. For exemple, you could add CRITSANDVICH on BLU shirts and HYPNOSANDVICH on RED shirts. Just a proposition like that.

Nice project, mate. Spy-monkey, happy. :3

Reminds me of the time I wanted to make a CSn-themed vending machine for my Counter-Strike: Source server. Never did get to it. I may get to it sometime. (would like some help getting Sandviches dispensed from them, as well)

Rustic would like a re-skin of the Villain's Veil with a Sandvich Logo on it, please and thank you. :3

I've been meaning to make me a skin or 2.... never got around to it, though.

All we really need is a Ghastly Gibus reskin. Even if it's just to put a sandvich on top of it.

You...would not believe how hard it is to get a Sandvich image that works at the resolution these VTFs are scaled to...

It's also tough to polarize a sandvich image into only two colours for the class logo.

Demoman and Engineer are done; I had to clean up the engineer skin a bit to work on it, so it should look less pixelated and more detailed (around the patch, anyway) than the default one.

You actually don't have to follow the resolutions. My vending machine skin in Counter-Strike: Source is 1024x1024, double the normal resolution, and it displays normally.

Yeah, I found that out last night when I was trying to throw a Sandvich design together. I'm hesitant to scale up these textures any more than they are at the moment due to the sorts of pixelation and blurring that normally causes. I could always scale and clean each skin for each team, but hat would take a bunch of time, and I'm sure I'd make errors in the process.

For now, this stylized Sandvich works pretty well at most resolutions, and fits with TF2's art style; at most I should only need to 2x scale some of the skins. I'm kind of bummed that none of the Sandvich parts are team-coloured like the logos they're replacing, but I couldn't find any way to make that colour scheme look good.

This look really really good Tech. o.o

What surprises me the most is how so little admins commented in this topic (if any?). It's a great project for CSn and it seems to be done with skill as well. o.o

Please don't give up. I'm sure you'll have dozens of fans around here when it'll all be finished. ;)

Thing is, it's an emblem, so ideally it needs to be composed only of two colours, one of which is the background. Like this:

I'm kind of cheating that design ethic at the moment with outlines and a 3rd, white-ish colour, so I'm not 100% in-style.

Decision time, let's get some opinions up in here.

Image

I need to decide on the CritSandvich emblem; specifically, the filling for it. Do you guys want it to be a neutral yellow on both teams (Bottom Left), a mostly-white filling with a team-coloured tint (Bottom Right), or a darker and more team-coloured Red/Blue (Top)? Alternatively, I could do a neutral yellow for RED and the a tinted white for BLU.

I can't change this as I go without splitting off tons of template files for each skin; I need to pick one before I start re-doing the skins. Either way, it's the same amount of work for me.

They work on SB1, SB2, and every CSn server in existence to this date, except the easter eggs that are designed to only function on non-CSn servers.

I do test my products extensively, and am very familiar with server integration. There's no reason they shouldn't work.

Well you're supposed to try them out and see if you like them, but I guess I could throw something together.
I refuse to use
    Soda Popper
    Liberty Launcher
    Axtinguisher; Phlogistinator
    Stickybomb Launcher
    Tomislav
    Pomson 6000
    Quick Fix
    Bushwacka; Machina
    Enforcer; Spycicle

on CSn servers.
I don't expect you to, but I appreciate those of you that do.

I've been on her boat, it's a nice one.

Anyway, I'm just a TF2 player that happens to love Touhou and anything else that is weaboo. Some of my favorite Touhou characters include Meiling, Yuyuko, Flandre and of course, Komachi. If you want to be my friend, just drop me a line and I will consider.

Also, anyone who can model things or knows someone who can model things, be sure to check out the third link at the bottom of this discription.

Now I better get back to work before Shiki notices ag*SMACK*
