But yes, we are aware that doing stat based contests on the server isn't a perfect way to get things done. We tried to do random distribution of the top 100 in stats to make it less Try-Hard oriented but I think that we underestimated just how many regulars that we have on the server nowadays

Anyway, yea when finger asked me for ideas for this contest this is pretty much what I said would happen. You simply cant have a contest based on stats in a pub server and expect it to do anything for the community other than bringing in some stat whores for the month. We did come up with some other ideas however, one mainly seemed like a awesome idea. After doing the Rocket Tennis episode of Roflvich, we had the idea of a Critsandvich TF2 Olympics. With events like the rocket jump, the pillvelin, the air shot (with pills and rockets) rocket tennis, pyro curling, Proyro volleyball, spycrab dueling ect. Which is a idea I still like to see be done. As well as art contest, talent show as well as a few other ideas. What does the community think about ideas like these instead of the stat contests we've had over the last 2-3 months?

Finger is simply trying to do something for the community, and he wants to do contest for us with uber items, its just a matter of finding something thats productive for the community we all agree on.

Making a sandvich logo thing doesn't give people a lot of freedom for creativity :I

I think that a TF2 or critsandvich related comic/art contest would be good because it focuses on bringing people to the website, AND it gives the website lots of awesome content. Some people are freakishly artistic, and there's plenty of room for things to be funny, epic, whatever

Anyway, the website is a much more stable foundation for the community in the long-term than the server. There was a similar similar contest for an MMORTS (Shattered Galaxy <3) fan forum (http://www.sg-city.com) and it pretty much made the website. The game has been dead for years and it still has activity to this day

just my 2 cents ...

i like the idea behind the contests. it show great dedication and giving on behalf of the comunity. im happy as long as i get to play with my fav ppl once inna while

i think a contest were things like pro jumps and stuff like that is to .. i dont know the word but stupid ... Z would win or some jump map pro would win ....

i think you guys should take as long as it takes even if tis 3-4 months to think of something everyone would have a fair chance at ... i know easier said than done ....

im not going anywere even if the contests stop forever i have too much fun killing patrid and failhorse and peeing on rapid lols

With the way the contest is currently held, here are some of my complaints:

*They way points are distributed I am punished for playing on crit sandvich. This is especially true when playing on off hours because new people join the server and because they are new they nibble up all my points. I understand that people have already complained about this, but I just want to illustrate how it makes me feel.

*The sheer competitiveness of the whole thing. I cant stand losing points. "then dont care about them" they say. If you're a naturally competitive person like myself, you probably find ignoring the points damn near impossible. Before the contest I had fun just playing, but now I'd rather lose and not die than win and have a negative k:d ratio.

*Drastically changes the average skill set of the server. So lets say I manage to ignore the point system for a moment. I'm still getting my ass kicked and hard. I know I'm not the best player, and I haven't been playing as well as I used to, but recently I've been nothing but angry when I play (probably more of a personal problem than anything else). The contest has added some cool people, some ok people, and some people who are way to fucking good for me to even stand a chance (it makes me sad).

Everyone is affected by new people coming on the server; that's when your skill is tested. Besides, don't you play medic? People aim for you no matter what. If you want easy points play engi and keep running through your teleporter while you wait for people to go after your gun.

You say you're competitive I thought that would make you more excited about this competition. I'm also competitive and I love this contest. Maybe it's because I do t care about hats, but I love hearing toaster rage in mumble.

People are playi g smarter now. I love that and a higher skill set is good! What fun is a game if you can beat everyone? Z lipse is in that position even now and lately he's been going script demo and piss gun sniper to try and make it more fun. Wouldn't you hate having to do that? I would! Although piss gun is really funny...

I think you have me confused with someone else. I hardly ever play medic to be honest, and I can't really support a contest which forces me to be engie just to play on the server.

I am competitive, but due to my schedule (work 25 hours a week, class 15 hours a week, and finals coming up) I cannot afford to put as much time into TF2 as I have in the past. Although I'm competitive, I would much rather have fun than worry about points.

Again, my schedule doesnt really allow me to get much out of this. Yes, playing better people makes you better, but why would I want to play a game when I never win? Frustration during this contest is getting too high, and I'd rather lose to zclipse and the other regulars 100 times before I get my ass kicked up and down by someone who doesnt even care about our server.

Thats why we made it so it was top 100, and only 50 random people of that get prizes, so you could come in 1st and get nothing but it seems theres still a lot of team stacking ect like we had last time. That and we didn't think it would be that hard to come in the top 100. The trick is to make sure are normals get prizes or at least have a easy shot to do so, yet we attract more quality players to the community. Finger and I talked quite a bit about this, and he wanted something that worked by simply playing on the slayboxs, this is what we (and who ever else offered Ideas, I think a few others did as well) came up with.

Which is why I ask to postpone contests for a while. Why does anyone have to lose or get mad? I was attracted to chritsandvich because of the people, the community. One HUGE factor was cutler and sussy doing their commentaries (which I would be happy to do myself if people thought it would be fun...I think it would be fun). My point is that we can attract plenty of really cool people to the server without the need to hold contests. If we still want to give stuff away that's awesome, I just wish I had a good suggestion on how to do so evenly.

i like the fact the redmins are trying to better the comunity in a way that is ment to be fun ... give it some time for them to work out the bugs ... they put alot of thought into these and shouldnt be treated like they have done something wrong ... yes its brought some try hards and hat nerds i wont argue that ... but its through repeated trial and error that we progress as ppl and a community ...

the way it was set up i think contest 1 ppl had more fun on but made everyone a try hard for the most part and rewarded the current members more than the new ppl ...

and contest 2 was more focused toward bringing in new ppl to play with and made it so that those new ppl who came late would feel like they had a shot and the regs still had a fair shot based on there commitment to the server instead of stacking and play time ...

now i think with that info and some serious thought a new contest could find a middle ground and possibly more as long as the community is open to it

i thought that you guys would show more support for the ppl who work hard to better our community ... im not saying your complaints arnt valid they are ... but we have some great ppl trying to to great things you should thank them ... if u havent noticed most tf2 communities have there top-admins ignore they ppl and do what they want be happy they are involed and give them a chance ... all good things take time and effort

1 idea could be to set up a contest box ... so there is still the contest but ppl have to go there yes it would take ppl from our current servers to be there but at the same time if u dont like it you dont have to feel like your forced to compeat and can go to the SB's to relax .... also it could have specific rules and such to help get to the best way of running the contest ... or make the funbox, contest box for a month or something like that ... and if server attendance gets hurt from it, it doesnt have to be done like that again .... at the same time 1 might not be enough to run a contest on lol if to many ppl want to play .. so the funbox could go regular CSn and the SB's could be the contest server ...

Probably a good idea, don't think I've seen this much whining in the SB's... ever.

Sadly it's all over some stupid hats, 97 of the 100 qualifiers (along with those who didn't qualify) are just going to be disappointed at the end of it all anyways. For those that do win something special, well as we can see from the last give away, they don't stick around.

Other than the extra google add traffic I really don't see the point of any of this. I would much rather play with CSn members than have to put up with the degenerates grinding hat points every time this contest arrives.

To be honest, I didn't even know about the contest until halfway through April. At that point I thought, hey that's kinda neat. Too bad I'll never win anything. Then a few days later I realized I was ranked 90 on Slaybox I.

Instantly I began to stress.

Having just got here, I don't really have much insight to this whole thing, but if there are others feeling like I do, maybe future contests should be put on hold for a bit. I wouldn't say never bring em back, and if they do continue, I'll continue to enjoy them. So basically, I'll live either way.

PS. Also, I'm not 100% sure I was looking in the right place for rankings.

I also want an end to the contests since it does bring in people, but its people I quite frankly dislike and are completely immature children. If I was an admin I would have given them a warning and then proceed to kick them from the server. They do not contribute to the server except to populate it and when the contest is over they will never even look at the server again. I however do recommend tournaments with team vs. team play and have those teams sign up along with whom is on the team and such on the forms. These contests just bring players that encourage the previous regulars to leave the community. I greatly enjoyed this community when I first started playing here and there were commentators and such and I thought this was by far the best server I had been on, but since the contests have gone on the quality of player on the server has diminished and I now often see myself looking at other servers. Let's bring this server back to its former glory and have fun again =). Thank you. Also Toaster Idra is awesome, but he plays zerg and rages like no other person I have seen on Electronic Sports XD

It will be at the expense of populating the servers more, especially true at odd hours. While there may be less of these "undesirables" in the servers, it also may potentially cause the loss of good quality players that we want to bring in to our community. There are ways to deal with the undesirables.

Team stacking isn't unique to the contest. It happens with quite a few regulars regardless. This can easily be fixed by disabling team switching. It may not stop everyone because people have other means, but it becomes a lot harder.

For douches just mute them. If they keep harassing you talk to an admin or if possible switch to the other slaybox.

Try hards I don't really have a problem with. If you aren't trying hard then you shouldn't care if other people are. I play to have fun . Lately I have been playing a lot of classes I normally never do. I don't always do well but I just shrug it off.

There are ways to deal with these kind of people without stopping the contest that is meant to reward our regulars.

edit: oh and about people moaning about when they die. it's normally when new people are playing and dying to them deducts 25 points. there should be some way to prevent new people from deducting that much.

There's really no insult quite like telling somebody they try hard. The contest wasn't that hard to qualify for, I made it into the top100 with a ~3 week tf2 break for the portal 2 release/finals. It's a contest, not everyone can win, c'est la vie QQers. As a CSn regular, the contest did manage to get me playing in the slayboxes as opposed to others on my favourites list, thanks for the generosity fingerman.

i dont see a problem with try hards. but we have had problems with teamstacking before. last contest my clan Hard Ass team stacked and we learned our lesson. this time its a different group and they also troll.

i really dont feel like this is that big of a deal, its not that hard to ignore if you dont like it, yes, i realize some people teamstack but i havent seen a huge increase in it being done since the contest started, and i realize the contest has brought some trolls/douches, but its definitely brought a lot of new good people to the community as well.the only thing i see wrong with the contest is that its favored towards people that play a lot/people that are really good, all that has to be done is the next contest format just has to be something random, theres no reason to stop having contests

"i just wanna play with my friends" ... then it goes from 2 ppl doing it to 4 then 6 and the server ends up like lotus or ffn or source servers ... all talk is on you dont have to be on the same team to play with them .... its more like i wanna always roll the other team so here is my excuse ...

so with all-talk on what i wanna know is how you cant play with your friends when you guys arnt on the same team ?

and hardass stopped .... but it seems like they have been got about 40 screenshots of ppl stacking .... ill join with reserved slot to get on then repeatedly leave while my friends are in que to get them in .... and then 6 of us are on same team .... derp but its not stacking when we go to spec to choose the same team

and yes godmin theres "new" ones now

I find this whole thread retarded. I happen to enjoy Jawsh and friends. It's nice to have more competition around here.

I think instead of a west coast server we need to open up a "beginners square" that seems like it would give us more variety in this sandvich. Plus, less "try hards"?

If i may be so bold as to say something, when i first started playing on this server it was because a friend of mine recommended it saying that it was a server with nice fun-loving players, class limits (thank you God pc servers actually have them), an ample supply of people willing to play medic and most importantly a large amount of competitive players who want to win. That was enough to make me instantly fall in love with your servers and keep coming back to play. When i found out that you were also holding a competition for prizes and that was what the points were for it only increased my want to play here. In fact i told a lot of people on my friends list that the servers had class limits and such they too were over joyed to try it out. many started showing up near the end of the contest and only found out about it now, and had the intention of coming back regardless because of the great community. When i asked them if they would've liked to participate many said yes and that it sounded like an incredible way to attract people of all skill ranges. So anyway the point im trying to make is this, Regardless of wether or not you host another give-a-way people will still be attracted and that if you keep them around it only drives people to push themselves to do better.

I think the contest served its purpose, which I assume was to bring fresh faces to CSn. It got me to start coming to crit sandvich as well as my friend Jeh. I think both of us will continue to come to this server too. Great ping and other than Sandman, good people.

Also, this is too much fun to leave behind.

If you want to always play on the same team as your clan grow a pair and join a comp league. While on CSn just stay on w/e the auto join puts you on.

For real, it's like we're the only community who likes to kill their friends. If you play in the slayboxes long enough, you'll make enough friends that you'll always play with some and against some. We have a lot of friends in the community, if we all stacked it just wouldn't be fair.

Man up, duel your friends, and then humiliate them. It's what a real friend would do.

I think this is a fantastic idea actually. Make it something like 2$, that way you're still getting money but it's not taking up EVERY reserved slot.

I do. Good players stress me out too much. You should make donations compulsory above a certain skill level, it's the only way I'll be able to play here without damaging my self-esteem.

Agreed, was just a idea off the top of my head. Personally I'd rather see the art contest ect instead, or simply not have contest on the SB servers. Maybe like the March contest only actually get people to show up. Maybe a 2v2 instead of 6v6?
