crit sandviches

Can we seriously get crit sandviches? They wont change anything but the look of the sandvich and other lunch items so I don't see why they could be a problem.

Well sandviches don't have a "firing" call in the traditional sense; they only crit when boosted, and never actually roll for crits, not even with a 0% chance. In order to actually have critsandviches on the server, as far as I know, we'd have to implement a plugin that sniffs the target weapons of each player, and toggles addcond 11 / removecond 11 based on what weapon they have out. That would lead to tons of extra server traffic that would decrease space left for normal game data, causing the servers to be generally laggier and buggier as a result. On top of that, anything that adds or removes crits is prone to breaking in the "murder everything you turn your gaze upon" variety, and it would also be one other plugin on our servers we'd have to maintain and debug as time went on.

Alternatively, it could be easier to edit the server's items.txt to give the sandvich an On Equip ability of category Guaranteed Critical Hits. I don't know if Critboosting is a valid On Equip attribute, and I don't know whether any of this would work or how many plugins, if any, we would need.

The first way will work, for sure. Second way, I have no clue.

An items.txt edit won't lag the servers if it can be done with vanilla TF2 controls and/or sourcemod.

Well we wouldn't have critbuffalos; we could just have critsandviches. Assuming, of course, that this is possible.

Well, it could basically be a Buffalo Steak but instead of restricting you to the melee, you can use any weapon, but the crit time is shorter than the steak. You still take mini crits though.

Why would it give you crits after you switched to your weapon?

We can just make the sandvich crit only when you have it out, but act like a normal sandvich. That way we get critsandviches and don't go implementing controversial and potentially game-breaking balance changes just because of our community name.

Someone was asking how you could make that work without alienating steak users. I'm not advocating it. I was just solving a problem someone had.
