Autojoin issue with Slaybox 1

by Techercizer » Thu Jun 09, 2011 6:03 pm

Trying to auto-connect to SB1 will cause an instant connection (for the "unoccupied" 25th replay slot), followed by an immediate disconnect with the message "The server is full". This makes auto-joining impossible for me (and I suspect many others), and might actually damage the server's Steam reputation. It seems that I actually join, then leave, the server for a split second, as I am asked if I want to blacklist SB1 on a failed disconnect. I know Steam tracks how long people stay on servers and has some vague consequence for servers people constantly join-then-leave (to prevent fake player counts and whatnot).

A SUF poster has said the following cvars are related:

Autojoin does work. Means that the server owner has not set the proper sv_visiblemaxplayers cvar and/or the +maxplayers on startup when including the replay to be active.

We use hidden reserved slots. sv_visiblemaxplayers is modified by that automatically. I don't know what I need to do to fix this. sm_reserved_slots is correct. Sourcemod seems to be conflicting with the replay system.

Bummer, so we've got everything configured right and Valve's auto-join system is still bugging?

At least we have a trade server to chill in while we wait for slots to open though if all goes as plan I should be picking up a reserved slot soon...

Any idea if these join-and-kicks affect the server's reputation with Valve's analysis systems?

its the replay bot thing that always causes this problem. server says 24 out of 25. the 25th thing in the slot is the replay bot. but the replay bot does not show up in the server list as a player. so even though 25 out of 25 are taken, the list will show 1 spot open.

as long as the server has replay on it, this problem will exist (until there is a fix)

I'd figured that much; it sucks there's no way to declare a player invisible.

We could make it work right. But the down side would kick a player in the server. We don't do that. So this is the result. Which sucks, but is better than randomly kicking someone already in the server.

Donate. Then it's not an issue. There are really more than 24 slots. But over 24+ is hidden. When a donor joins it brings the slots to 25+ ect. After a few minutes it drops back to normal. As people leave ect. That's how we can offer slots without kicking anyone.

I agree this is way better than kicking players.

I plan to be donating in a few weeks if everything works out locally like I'm hoping it will, or if something goes FUBAR, at least in a few months.

Valve sometimes reports the wrong player count in the server browser. If you join a server and you are the only player in there, it will still show 0 players in the server. Try it and see. 2 players = 1 sometimes... My point is, if valve keeps reporting the wrong player count and you are waiting to get in a server, it will try to make you connect to a full server and the server will subsequently kick you because you are not a donator.
