mIRC channel set up for CSn!

For those who don't know what mIRC is, it's pretty much just a chat room, but only people who know the channel name can join. Also, unlike most chat rooms, the owner (as of now, me, might chance to Benny as he knows more about IRC) can give people powers. For example, buzzbrad came on today and since he's an admin on the trade server, I gave him admin on the mIRC channel. The ranking for admin is pretty much the same thing as the admins here in CSn, the remins will be co-owners, the head-admins will be masters, the full admins will be op's (operator I think?) and the trial admins will be peons. The owner can also restrict differect things to different people, like only head-admins and above can ban people from chat, or things like that.

There is also a way to make it so you can have server(s) from ingame have live chat with people in IRC, for those admins who work and can't get on steam can watch the chat logs through IRC, and communicate with people in the server, but as of now that's not set up.

How to join the chat:
These steps are needed if you want admin in the chat room.First, you have to sign up for a site called gamesurge, which is at http://gamesurge.net. When there, on the top right corner is a register button. You then go to http://gamesurge.net/chat when signed up.
Only if you want to join the chatGo to http://gamesurge.net/chat, and it'll ask you for a nickname, which you can change to be your ingame name or something your known as.
Final StepsWhen you set up your nickname, you click on chat, and then the gamesurge webclient will load up. You'll automatically join the #welcome channel, but if you type in /join #critsandvich, you'll join the CSn channel. At the top of the chat box, you can close out the #welcome channel if you want to. From then on, it's pretty much just a regular chat room!

for some reason i can't talk in the server. i've connected both from gamesurge's website and pidgin, and just get "Cannot send to channel: #critsandvich"

Or you could just do this:
Go into your IRC client, connect to irc.gamesurge.net and type in the channel name #critsandvich. It worked for me.

He didn't need to grant me voice before I typed.
I was able to send messages as soon as I got in.

It's possible to, theres channels that have that, but I don't think it's possible to set up 1 channel for multiple servers. That was also the idea behind making it, Benny said he would install the IRC plugin for the servers when he gets the chance.

Yeah, finally I can get into this. This is a really awesome idea. I need to make the chatbox link to IRC.

By the way, it's not a "mIRC" channel. mIRC is the client. IRC is the correct term. mIRC is just a crappy IRC client. I prefer XChat, but the windows version isn't free, so that's crappy. On a mac, use Colloquy (if it's free, can't remember). On Windows... I don't know. mIRC I guess. I failed to find a good Windows IRC client.

Pidgin technically supports IRC but it's not the best implementation.


As for the servers, yes. I'm going to attempt to get IRC working across all servers tonight. I'll have to see how to keep it from being spammy though. Maybe only make it active for those who type a command like !irc or something.

I use Pidgin's IRC implementation and haven't had any problems with it. But I don't really know what features I'm missing.

So, I've set it up on the servers. Doesn't work on SB1 for some reason but whenever the server next gets restarted it ought to work. Same with fun, possibly.

Anyway, hit !irctoggle to enable/disable irc in chat. If you have greentext you have to do !colortoggle first to remove it since they collide and don't work. Something I'd like to fix at some point...

Yeah, seems like all the servers are now working properly!

Anyway the next step is to make the homepage chatbox use IRC instead of the crappy thing we have now. Before we do that though we should probably move Trade to a separate channel #critsandvich-trade or somesuch, because otherwise it'll just be way too spammy what with all them chats.
