Alternate income source idea.

Talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with TF2 or other games.

Alternate income source idea.

by Failhorse » Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:25 am

Was thinking....

I have a friend that can make T-Shirts pretty cheap. Since the blog should be running soon, and that DBZ ad in the MOTD should be dying soon. Why not we make up some cool t-shirt ideas and try to peddle them? Kinda like every other t-shirt place out there, but specific for CSn| and we build in the donor package to the cost of the t-shirt. (1 month.) Except in the blog area, where that wouldn't apply.

I know Ackbar has some silly stuff. I have 1 or 2 designs. I can't draw to save my life though.

I had a really cool idea for one. Have 3 sheep in wolves clothing eating a dead red riding hood in front of a little house. Under picture text reads, "blame global warming."

Ideas? Thoughts?

We dont have enough pimps for prostitution.

I do like the T-shirt idea, however I would love a Coffee cup with a crit sandvich logo on it more than anything else for those night shift working nights. I love me good ole coffee cups.

I'd do requested designs. My style is similar to my heavy drawing, heck the heavy may be an option now

I'd love to have a mug or a shirt. Would be an awesome way to bring the community into RL.

My girlfriend is a printmaker, so she could transfer any drawn images into a solid t-shirt format, as well as modifying it to best suit the t-shirt format. She could also do some original stuff, but as this is her profession, I'd like to see her get some form of nominal kickback from the proceeds, if there were any.

I got the same deal as Maringue, only not his girlfriend.

I can get other things besides shirts too.

We need a new logo. not a valve produced sandvich 2-tone.

My girlfriend could print shirts herself, but they would then be handmade, limited edition artist t-shirt. So in other words, not super cheap. But if people are interested, they are very cool.

Conversely, she I could probably convince her to do some stuff in photoshop if we wanted to just submit it to a company that prints t-shirts or mugs.

I'm thinking shirts would be 20 dollars shipped anywhere. Does that leave room for your better half Maringue? Also is she screening them or hand painting them? Transversely, through my guy anything less than 10 shirts would be about 6.50 a shirt. We could always set up a site that where we take orders then print when we hit a predetermined number.

Her shirts are hand drawn (the ink) screen prints. She uses a photo-emulsion to set the image on the screen. The price all depends on the number of layers/colors. I'll ask her about her ink/emulsion costs. She has two of her own screens that are big enough to do shirts, so she could do a decent number of 2 layer shirts. She could probably do 10 two color shirts (one sided mind you) in a day. If you know of a place that has cheap blank t-shirts, that would be a plus as that's a fixed cost. I'll ask her about the total cost. Also, input from the community on what they would fork over for a nearly one of a kind t-shirt would be a plus too.

If we are thinking of multiple color shirts, the best bet would be to go to a shirt printer. They have what looks like a big ass laser printer that puts the whole image onto the shirt in one go and is a lot less labor intensive and cheaper. She could help with the image design for that as well as she does a lot of work in photoshop.

Talked with the girlfriend. If she actually makes the T-shirts, they'd be more than 20 bucks, but you'd be the proud owner of a hand made T-shirt that supported both the server and an artist. Also, it's a great way to make hipsters totally envious of you. "Yo man, where did you get that t-shirt, it looks pretty vintage/sweet/whatever they say?" "Oh, this is a one of a kind." She can do hoodies too (or pretty much any fabric garment), but the hoodie itself costs more, so the whole thing would move up in price.

She also sounds like she'd be ok with doing some computer design work to submit to a t-shirt printer as well.

If anyone has stuff they draw and can scan, I'll see if she'd be willing to clean it up and make it into something that could end up on a shirt.

I think over 20 isn't going to be feasible.... But I would buy a hoodie, normal zip up type. Get me a price on this:

I'm not going to lie, that would be a pretty expensive mouse pad. Just a quick glance at it tells me it would be at least an eight color print, probably more like 10 or 12 to get it to look nice. As each color layer has to be made individually and screened onto the pad.

On the flip side, if you want to drop around 100 bucks (probably 80-150, I'd have to ask) on a super sweet mouse pad, I'll as her if she's interested in making one.
