Goodbye, Old Friend.

You ever get those moments where the world feels like it can go fuck itself? I'm feeling that way right now. My cat, of fourteen years, is on death's door and isn't expected to live through the night. I can still remember holding him as a little kitten, this little ball of white fuzz and soft whimpers... Now, he's so tired, just like I am.

Even after all I've learned, even after all I've accomplished, I'm still helpless to keep the things I love. Just felt like talking about it somewhere, because my empty room is pretty cold and lifeless right about now.

I know this feeling man. When I lost my dog that I had grown up with it hit me really hard. I've also had quite a few cats over the years that have passed. I still remember all of them and talk about them all the time. It's hard, but it's part of life. He gave you a lot of happy memories and you gave him a good, comfortable, loving life. That's pretty damn good there.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.

I remember when my cat of 19 years passed away...Ditto was her name, and she was older than I was, and we had the strongest understanding and connection between each other. When she went senile, she kept near the warmest spots and eventually forgot about all other needs. I felt as if she died long before she took her last breath...absolutely heartbreaking.

On a lighter note, my new puppy is extremely intelligent and playful. Before long he'll be the second best thing that I've owned, besides her of course. :D

I also know that feel, but my story isn't different from any of yours, so I won't retell it. Either way, sorry to hear about it. Hang in there; at some point it has to happen, and at least its better that he has you guys there........
But no, sometimes you just have to feel like the world is shitting on you, and it does really suck. Just remember him as often as you can, and realize that the world doesn't have it in for you. Good luck though. Have you had him since he was born? And is he the kid of any cat you owned before, or did you get him from somewhere?

This may not help, but adopt / get a new cat and name him/her (Cat's Name) Jr. He'll be with you forever!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm sorry I posted about this; I'm just really feeling down. Triggerhappy, I got him when he was just a baby. Picked him out a week after he was born. He was the runt of the litter, my other cat's half-brother. I don't know how long he has left, but I'll try and remember all the good times.

I'm with you man.
my 16 year old dog has one eye, mange, and a slew of other ailments. I've had him since I can't even remember.
I thought i was going to lose him within a few days two months ago, so I don't know how long he's got.
I don't know how I'm gonna cope man :/

This is why I love turtles, they'll mourn me rather I mourn them.
Dancing the night away, and then when I get bored, I go and play tfdb_float at the love nest... Again

I remember when my last cat died. You gotta think positive. My cat did his job as a cat: be awesome and chill. I remember when my mom went to go put him down since he literally just sat on my parents bed for an entire day and was also on his way out. I gave him one final pet and saluted him. If your cat lived long, you should just think about his death as a positive thing. Death is death, you can't avoid it, just accept it and know that he was a trooper until the end.

Also, turtles are pretty legit, always wanted one.

This is pretty good advice. You'll never quite replace your cat, but you can find one that will remind you of all the good times and let you reconnect in a really happy way.

My family did this. We had one cat named Beeko, or Bitzko for short (yeah, I don't know either). When he passed on, we dedicated our new flagpole to him and got Bitzko II, who was a mackarel tabby just like him.

I've been through this six times myself. The last four happened when I was in college; I went from five cats to one in only five years. I even lost my favorite, a black cat (with a white spot on his neck) named Hammer Toe, because of the dead extra toes he had on his feet. (Yeah, once again, I don't know...my parents are weird.) But last summer my ex's roommate got a kitten who I played with all the time and relived a lot of my good memories because that kitten reminded me a lot of my old cat. It was great because I still sometimes expect to see that cat somewhere in my house before remembering that I can't. But then I just think back to how awesome he was.

So best of luck getting through this. He'll (or she'll) always be with you and some day they will be warm, fond memories.
I got tired of looking at Drawed's face.

Till that one dies too.

Then give the next one (Cat's Name) Jr. Jr. or (Cat's Name) the 3rd.
