D&D War Stories (Weegee's thread)

D&D War Stories (Weegee's thread)

by MamaWeegee » Wed Feb 29, 2012 4:50 pm

I'm starting a new campaign with my parents and their friends (Awesome right?)
but anyway I think we're playing in v3 or v2

I'm thinking

-Human Paladin
-Gnome Illusionist
-Elvish Sorcerer

I'd play bard but I like kicking ass

Critsandvich should do a Skype D&D :O Where there's just one day a week where you play it over skype, it would be pretty cool

It's not too difficult. You can buy books we'd probably play in v4

Why not play in 3.5 or pathfinder? 3.5 has all sorts of crazy cheese you can pull. VoP Druids/Monks and Incarnate Soulcasters are always a blast.

Playing Pathfinders with friends:

lv2 Cleric
Fire/Law Domain
Deity: Asmodeus
Lawful Evil

My only magical item is a contract book where I trick people to sign and gain one of the numerous domain of Asmodeus for a full month. After that my fellow churchmen find them and use them for slave since that's what they signed for, people should understand Infernal, their own fault.

Also I may be a support class but I still dish heavy damage with my aura and fire domain.

I should get my D&D group back together. Over the summer we decided to give 4e a try again but instead of pretending it was D&D admitting that it's basically a board game version of WoW. I played a Minotaur Barbarian and it was a lot of fun tanking absolute tons of damage and charging everywhere.

3.5 remains my all-time favorite edition, though, much as I loved Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. I started being a DM after my father killed or neutralized basically all of my characters ever.

- Halfling Rogue, eaten by a living room with a treasure chest for a mouth
- Human Cleric, alive but in hiding, never converted past AD&D
- Human Paladin, sword stolen by super-evil cleric: forced to go on a quest to steal an artifact from Tiamat - only living high-level character, but crippled due to loss of Holy Avenger and lack of replacement sword
- Gnome Illusionist, crushed by a giant monster in a magic dump and currently in a jumble of gruesome body remnants stuffed in a sack in a bag of holding
- Halfing Rogue, Head smashed by ogre, resurrected by same super-evil cleric, went into retirement
- Kobold Sorcerer, Killed by traps or something and general DM dislike of non-standard PCs
- Mummy Paladin, Killed by traps or something and general DM dislike of non-standard PCs (same adventure)

Also, Weegee: You should be a human/dwarven fighter/barbarian(/cleric?) and wear the best armor you can afford and take two-weapon fighting and weapon focus(spiked shield). If you're a human also take Two-weapon defense. Also, while you're wielding those spiked shields as weapons you should wear bucklers.

Need I say more?

Oh you don't need to plane-hop to break as an Incarnate Soulcaster. They get one level of Wizard and one level of Incarnate for every level they take after the 4th, up to the 14th. Also, Midnight Metamagic destroys.

God Surgeon, you are exactly the kind of player I used to drop doors on when I was a DM, they would magically fall out of the sky and ranged from 1D4 for a smaller door to 5D100 for a drawbridge door (yeah, that guy was being a super dick). The newer versions of D&D basically turned the game into "how badly can I manipulate the rules so I can create a powergamer class?" All these specialties and crap ruined the game.

I had a guy in my campaign make a character like this, way too overpowered by taking advantage of loopholes and such which no attention to background or character. Funny how he never got to take advantage of all that crap, he choked on a chicken bone meeting the rest of the party in an Inn and no one knew the Heimlich. Sad.

Basically once they turned D&D from roleplaying into table top WoW, or how many NPCs can you kill per round, I stopped playing. Battles happen, but they are not supposed to be the entire game. The best player I EVER had played a gnome tinkerer and continued to play the same character even after he was poly-morphed into a chipmunk. When everyone got back to a temple to un-petrify one of the other characters, he never even mentioned being unpolymorphed.

This is part of why I stopped being a PC and started being a DM. Most of my actual PCs were pretty fleshed out, even the weird ones like the Mummy Paladin of Osiris, or the Kobold Sorcerer who used his entire weight allowance to carry a massive pile of logs.

I've been both a PC and a DM, and while I'd love to play zany PCs with loads of hampering eccentricities (really, I would! No sarcasm), most of parties I'm in would probably TPK due to our raised ECL if I did.

I've player a Warlock Cat PC before though. It had the exact stats as a generic housecat (+0 ability scores from template), plus the Int and Wis from a randomly rolled awakening spell. It was crazy, and fun, and it almost lived through the first session >.>

I love our DM and how he gives us extra exp when we do something incredible without getting out of character. Last session we took over 11 kobolds plus their leader, did some dirty trick for killing half of them. Jump in the door frame cast my aura (1d6 30feet square around caster halved if Will save) and one of our guy pull me back out the room. DM decide that every remaining kobold wants me dead, they all throw their spear one pierce my leg while the rest miss. So I have that large spear in my leg and my character that usually stay calm has had enough of those scum, rip off the spear out of my leg and slice the throat of their leader in a final blow. I then tend to my wound with my healing spells. Epic time.

Also this thread is now about D&D stories.

No, my minions!

My GF is running a campaign with some of her friends where they're trying to stop a dragon who's trying to take over the country. I'm secretly playing the dragon as a PC inbetween their sessions. I have many kobold minions.

I've played 3.5, 4e and AD&D, but the only one I really ever got in with and know the rules are for 3.5.

UHM To be on-subject, if you're playing 3.5 rules, what are you looking for in a character? From your suggestions it looks like some sort of magic user, so you wanna be like a utility magic user? Who like, buffs and rips open the planes of reality to summon tiny rooms? Or just DPS warmage or what?

Play a Wizard Archivist and do both.

I would love to play DnD again but I have yet to meet anybody at my school interested.

Also, 3.5 FTW. On a practical side, you can get all the 3.5 books through torrents anyways so nobody has to actually buy them.

I'd go with the Illusionist. Honestly, my favorite are Rogues and Druids. Why? Rogues because I like being stealthy and filled with skills and Druids because I like just needing 3 or 4 feats to break the game with how much of a God I've become because Druid is easily the most OP class in the entire game.

Edit: Why don't we just use the vent server? I think everybody's trustworthy enough not to lie about their rolls. We could use the forums to record character sheets and whatnot. Could be an interesting way to do things.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.
