If you're a human also take Two-weapon defense. Also, while you're wielding those spiked shields as weapons you should wear bucklers.
Need I say more?

Last session we took over 11 kobolds plus their leader, did some dirty trick for killing half of them. Jump in the door frame cast my aura (1d6 30feet square around caster halved if Will save) and one of our guy pull me back out the room. DM decide that every remaining kobold wants me dead, they all throw their spear one pierce my leg while the rest miss. So I have that large spear in my leg and my character that usually stay calm has had enough of those scum, rip off the spear out of my leg and slice the throat of their leader in a final blow. I then tend to my wound with my healing spells. Epic time.
Also this thread is now about D&D stories.

UHM To be on-subject, if you're playing 3.5 rules, what are you looking for in a character? From your suggestions it looks like some sort of magic user, so you wanna be like a utility magic user? Who like, buffs and rips open the planes of reality to summon tiny rooms? Or just DPS warmage or what?
