What if Valve Source'd up Mech Warrior?

Talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with TF2 or other games.

What if Valve Source'd up Mech Warrior?

by Failhorse » Thu Nov 18, 2010 1:18 pm

I've been thinking about this for quite some time. Mech Warrior was one of my favorite games as a lad and I miss it dearly.
Think about a mashed up version ala TF2. Item drops to 'supe up your mech, trading, ect. More interesting than visual tradables.

Payload = escort missions
Making territory control useful.

Someone already modded some other game for this. Can't remember what game it was. I had a whole rant, but got caught up in phone calls.

What do you all think?
My idea was to use the TF2 structure of joining games, and the ease of community. Not saying we should mod it. Just think it'd be cool.

Unfortunately Activision is very tight fisted with MechWarrior. I loved that game as a kid and have been waiting for what seems like many years for the new one to come out. Seriously, MW 4 has been in the works for like 8 years or something. How long does it take to make a fucking game? Even the trailer has been out for like 6 years. At this point, the new Duke Nukem game will come out before MW4.

I would love to see a Source mod for giant mechanized robot suit warrior battles. I think playing it on TF2 maps would feel weird, though.

You never know, it might just happen. What with DotA 2 coming out and a few unannounced projects, they might be thinking about it. But, Valve is into mods. So maybe it won't happen.

That actually looks really, really awesome. FASA keeps fucking up who they give the rights to make the game to. If they gave it to an actual good company, the game could be the greatest thing ever. Even the MW games that are out there only take advantage of one aspect of the game. That Crysis game actually looks interesting because it incorporates things like Elementals, planes and tanks into the game. They didn't get it right however since one or two full blasts from a Mech would totally destroy any tank.

I used to play MechWarrior as a table top game, god that was fun. This is a game that is begging to be made into an online multiplayer game.

Fail, did you ever go down and play the MechWarrior simulator at Navy Pier? That shit was the tits back in the day.

There were a couple places that had the sims back in the day. There was a place called Enchanted Castle (think it's still around.) Every Friday when i was 15-18 we'd go there and play the sims and or laser tag. Had friends that worked there so we didn't have to pay for anything.

That was back before cell phones. Kinda just had to show up and hoped everyone else did too. :lol:
