Time to tell us your favorite movies.

Talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with TF2 or other games.

Time to tell us your favorite movies.

After a fairly successful tread on your favorite games, why not do the same for film? So, rules are the same as before. One list for pre-1990 films, and another for modern films. I guess I'll toss mine out.

Older Films
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
Godfather Part I and II
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Plan 9 From Outer Space
Breakfast Club
Ordinary People
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Citizen Kane

Modern Films
Goodfellas
Shawshank Redemption
The Wrestler
Any Quentin Tarantino flick
Black Swan
District 9
Toy Story 3 (used to be Up, but TS3 is a movie that really hits me on an emotional level that Up didn't. Yes, I'm a Pixar whore.)
Good Will Hunting
Spirited Away
Old Boy

I'm not sure Pulp Fiction will ever be dethroned from its place as my favorite movie.

Besides Pulp Fiction (and anything else Tarantino has done), I've loved Mel Brooks' movies as well as most of Hitchcock's stuff.

Movies are the fun!

I just saw Inception for the first time, and I must say it's an excellent film. I also liked The Time Traveler's Wife and Up. I haven't watched many movies though, not much of a movie person.

Never seen it, but I looks good. Plus it's an Asian film, which are usually better that most American films, mostly because they don't have to deal with the MPAA. See Old Boy above.

I wish I could, but my ability to see obscure movies legally is going to severely diminish once I go to Japan, since I won't have Netflix.

Fight Club
Memento
Pandorum (think that's the right name)
Boondock Saints 1
Inception
How to Train Your Dragon
The Triplets of Belville
Wristcutters: A true love story
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Jacket
Saw 1 (because it was an interesting concept for it, but after that it was dumb)
Children of the Corn (I love cheesy movies this one always makes me laugh)
Donnie Darko
Se7en
Taken
The Shining (first one)

But that's all I can think of right now.

Just so I can be clear, I'm assuming these movies are available on Netflix Instant, yes? Because if I have time I'll watch them. I still have until the 17th to watch all the Netflix I need.

I like that one where Jack Black plays the out-of-touch fat guy
or the one where Michael Cera plays that awkward teenager

All sarcasm aside, I've enjoyed
- Enemy at the Gate
- Anchorman
- Ratatouille
- Donnie Darko
- The Green Mile
- Angles in the Outfield (Childhood Fav)
...and some I can't remember

Your list is the only list where I've heard of/seen all the movies on the list. Goof job my man. Oh, and both Jack Black and Michael Cera do have have some good roles they've played. For example, Jack black as himself in Tenacious D and Eddy Riggs in Brütal Legend. And, Michael Cera as George Michael in Arrested Development, Paulie Bleecker in Juno, and Scott Pilgrim. Sure, they're all kinda the same role, but they are still good at their typecast, especially Cera. He has more good movies than most teenage actors.

Oh, and on a side note, Pixar are by far my favorite filmmakers. "But Volty, they make kiddy movies! How can they compare to Tarantino and Scorsese?" Well, Pixar make G rated movies that don't talk down to kids like other films of the same kind. Just watch Wall-e, Up, and Toy Story, especially 3. All three of these films feature adult subjects that adults can understand without alienating younger viewers. Wall-e is about the possible ramifications of our wasteful lifestyle, Up is about letting go of someone you once loved, and Toy Story 3 is about Death, the finality of life, and growing up. I won't lie, I cried in the ending of TS3 and in the married scene in Up. I hardly ever do that with a film, but both of those scenes just really hit me hard. Plus, Pixar never made a bad films, which alot of directors/film studios can't say.

You seen a movie called Fido? It's a movie set in alternate history 1950s where zombies are pets. It's awesome.

Empire Strikes Back - Motherfucking space opera, the Sith empire owns, and an amazing twist that was kept secret from the actors themselves. The best Star Wars movie by a huge margin imo
Miracle/Friday Night Lights - My two favorite sports movies. I thought they did an amazing job humanizing the characters and were about a lot more than the "big game" or the sport itself
LoudQUIETloud - My favorite music documentary. It's about The Pixies getting back together in 2004
Trainspotting - A dark comedy about self destruction and drug addiction. Irvine Welsh wrote the original story
Restrepo - A recent documentary about soldiers in Afghanistan. I love that the directors really didn't have an agenda or a narrative they wanted to get across...they let the footage tell the whole story and it's just amazing.

Restrepo is an incredible documentary. We all watched it for ROTC, it struck a lot of us pretty deeply.

The Matrix movies. Ok, so the last one kinda wasn't great, and the second one wasn't as good as the original, but still.

The Harry Potter movies. Shut up, I grew up with them and the books.

All time favorite comedy: Super Troopers. Fucking love that movie.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.

Hm, I haven't watched movies in a while. Probably my favorites:

I ♥ Huckabees
High Fidelity
Star Wars (Episode IV: A New Hope)

EDIT://
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Memento
Donnie Darko

deserve honorable mentions

Don't watch S. Darko, unless you want to get pissed off intentionally. Fuck that movie.

Also, and this is a slightly off topic, but what the hell happened to Richard Kelly? He makes a really good movie (Donnie Darko) that has since become a cult classic, and has now spent the rest of his career making utter shit (Southland Tales, The Box, wrote an truly awful unused script for Holes, and wrote Domino). Dude has the epitome of beginners luck.

Memento definitely takes the cake for me. Love old movies like Citizenkane, the Star Wars original trilogy, etc, etc, but also stuff like Fight Club. Anything that makes me think way too much is well worth my time.

Also, Spirited Away and 5cm Per Second for animated films.
