i got rejected from visa, discover, and master because i had no credit record
the only way to get your first card as a student is to go through your schools credit union, or your bank

If you can get your parents to co-sign on one, they can generally get you a much, much better interest rate. Then after a couple years you can apply for one just in your name.

Ackbar is probably someone to ask about this being she's one of Discovers pimps hollering "Where be my money at bitches?!?" But I think generally if you can co-sign one with your parents and get 2 years of on time bill paying in, then you should be good.
