Grounded for a week.

Talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with TF2 or other games.

Grounded for a week.

So yeah, that's happening. Just a heads up. Oddly, only from the PC. Xbox, iPod, and the tele are still fair game. I guess it's as good a time as any to beat Halo: Reach on Legendary. (Halo: Reach? Moar liek Gaylo: Reacharound, amirite?)

Ah poor dear. My Dad used to ground me off of reading. I would sit there and cry like a bitch until he'd feel bad. Then we would play Star Craft together. May I ask what you did?

Sure. I deserved it too. For the past week or so, my stepdad has had to work from 9PM to 9AM, and he has to be awake the entire time. Not only that, but at 6PM he has to go to PT, so his sleep schedule is all fucked up at the moment. Anywho, earlier today I was on the trade server having a good time, but I accidentally woke him up, which was not happy with. So, after being yelled at, I was grounded. I fucked up and I accept that, as well as the punishment.

I have a stepdad that used to have a fucked up schedule like that too. I understand your problem. :/

That's abusive behavior on his part. You waking him up was accidental, so he had no right to penalize you for it. He was obviously angry and acted on his anger; my own parents used to do that so I know full well what it's like (and still have a few scars). I wouldn't be surprised if he does more than just this (i.e. full Vernon Dursley).

My parents used to ground me from TV and the like back in the day, but they could never ground me from reading because they didn't want to send the message that reading/learning was something that could be prohibited, so whenever I got grounded I'd just pick up a book and read for the rest of the day. Good times.

I agree with Kazeneko to an extent, though maybe not quite as strongly. You woke up your father who's having lots of difficulty getting the sleep he needs, and that made things difficult for him; however, you didn't do it on purpose, so there isn't much of a lesson to be learned from this punishment. The one thing I think might come of it is you being more careful about noise in the future, which considering the really tight schedule he's on, really isn't such a bad thing. I think saying you "deserved it" is going a bit far though.

Never had a father growing up, so I don't have much experience in these matters.

Exactly. That's why I red-flagged this. If he gets this pissy over losing a few minutes of sleep, that may mean he has anger management issues. And as we all know, anger management issues often indicate tendencies toward physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse. We need to keep our eyes peeled in case something serious happens to Volty; we could be held responsible (or forced to testify) if he's injured or killed.

...but, as I said, on the other hand: His father is going through a very tight work schedule at the moment. He needs all the sleep he can get to keep doing his job and providing for his family. Grounding Volty might have been harsh, but I bet Volty's going to think twice about whether his father's asleep the next time he's in voice chat. He didn't kick Volty all over the living room, he didn't even ban him from his other game consoles or TV. He just sent a strong message that Volty needed to learn to be quiet in the future.

In the unlikely event that Volty is randomly murdered in his sleep and I am tracked down by law enforcement, I'll tell them his father gave a strict punishment one time, but that's about all there is to this really. I'm more worried about Volty getting run over in the street than his father, who he seems to respect, randomly murdering him.

some parents are stricter than others, that doesnt mean theyre bad parents and will murder their step children...i know youre just being cautious but it seems like youre overeacting. plus, im sure there's probably more to the story like maybe his step father told him specifically not to wake him up, then its a lot more understandable to be mad about it

What the hell happened to this thread while I was asleep? Just for some clarification, this was the second time that it happened, even if I don't wake him, he only gets 4-7 hours of sleep, and he doesn't have anger issues, so I doubt I'll get murder. Chill out guys. I'm glad you guys are concerned for me, but if I felt as if he was abusive, I wouldn't be living with him. Although, my real dad is a racist homophobic Republican asshole...

There's a reason for that: a few years ago there was a campaign to spam negative reviews in order for Amazon to delist/remove the book. It has been connected to the deaths of two children and dozens if not hundreds of felony child abuse cases, many of which involving children being taken away from parents. The book's authors, Michael and Debi Pearl, have been investigated by CPS several times but remarkably never prosecuted.

Small update: THIS IS FUCKING BORING! Since 8:30 this morning, I've had to attend this stupid class my mom had to go to about dealing with bad relationships and communication. Even with the iPad, this is still agonizing. Tomorrow, I have to go with her to her work. That will be even worse.
