Mad Anthony: So if a photon is directed through a plane with two slits in it and either slit is observed, it will not go through both slits. If it's unobserved it will. However, if it's observed after it's left the plane but before it hits its target, it will not have gone through both slits.

Wave/particle duality FTW. Electron "orbitals" are not like planetary orbits, they are actually wave functions. But, in order to know the position of an electron, you must eliminate the energy variable from the equation in order to solve it and vice versa.

Oh, and I know it's a dumbed down version, but the electron does not "know" it's being watched. However, the method to observe the electron (you can't just hold your eye next to the slit and look) causes an effect on the system that collapses the wave function to a particle.

Our buddy Heisenberg came up with the concept that you cannot measure and event without effecting the outcome because the measurement method has to interact with the system in order to give you a result.

Very small shit does not act like large objects.
