It's a rare item for collectors. To your average person, of course the cost of it is going to seem outrageous.

...Nonetheless, it does appear to come with a rather extravagant price tag when compared to other listings of the same item. I guess that's because it's the only one available with 100% complete packaging.

Yeah, but that modern purpose wasn't why it was bought. The purpose for which it was bought was to be a collectible. That's why the bidder threw $96k at an "engineering sample" that was released for $1k a month or two later. That GPU and the 64DD are both collectibles.

And if that's what helps their owners get off, then power to them.
