An unfortunate turn of events...

Talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with TF2 or other games.

An unfortunate turn of events...

by Rologton » Sun Oct 14, 2012 7:58 pm

So for those who didn't notice, I was off doing training all weekend for ROTC. When I come back, sore, tired and hoping to play some music, I find that my computer is no longer turning on. Well, the fans turn on and the light on my capslock blinks on and off, but that's it.

I did some research, and apparently the capslocks blinking is a code for the issue. In this case its one blink meaning a CPU issue. Wonderful. So I will be taking it to Staples tomorrow in the hopes of getting it fixed.

Needless to say, I won't be in game until I figure out and resolve the issue. I'm no computer expert so I have no idea if this is something that is a quick fix or if I'm fucked and will have to get a new laptop.

If any of this computer wizzes here have any idea as to what I can do, please let me know. I have already tried a hard reset. It's an HP Envy-14 if that helps.
I play Scout and Medic a lot.

Oh yeah, that's a guy helping me find trades and stuff. He's good, but gets a little too into it (if youcan't tell).

Before you take your computer in. Completely disassemble it. Redo the heat sink gel. Remove dust, ect and reassemble.

I did, then I took it in. It's fucked. I either pay a ton of money to get it fixed and lose it for a few weeks or buy a new one. Leaning towards getting the new one, I need a laptop not only for homework but for 2 classes I'm in. The sooner I get one the better.

If anyone know how I can get shit off the hard drive, please let me know. It would be real nice if I don't have to redo all of my midterm assignments. I also don't want to lose all of the several thousand songs I have.

Also, any tips on a good laptop? I'm starting to research them. I prefer HP.
