Secret santa bitches

by Ackybur » Thu Sep 08, 2011 6:27 am

Last year Secret Santa worked out pretty well and we had a decent amount participating in it. I am here to find out if you'd want it again? I'm not taking the names yet... just needing an idea of how many people would actually participate. Also, do you feel there should be a money cap?

This works. Walk up to a girl and shake her hand. Complement her boobs, tell her she has a nice smile. Tell her your children with her will be beautiful. Complement her boobs again.

I think you should just follow the previous formula. You know, a minimum price point, but you can go above and beyond at you and your person's disclosure.

Also, if you're going to participate, don't be a dick and don't follow through. If you're going to commit, commit.

I think we should agree on the minimum magnitude of these gifts' values, but other than that leave it open.

People need to know whether this is the sort of event where you'll be donating weapons or hats (or higher), or there's going to be a lot of confusion when the time comes to hand these things over!

Also, I'd like to see the Santa assignments actually kept secret; that means no passing notes in the corner you lot!

I don't expect you to, but I appreciate those of you that do.

Well, the way it was last time, you could literally gift anyone anything, as long as it was worth more than 15 bucks. So steam games, clothing, itunes cards, etc. was passed around. I think Ackbar did specify no TF2 items last time though.

EDIT: I looked into it, and that is not the case. However, I still think TF2 items should be off the table. But whateve. Derp.

We really should clarify if TF2 items are included and how those fit into the minimum value limit before we start organizing the event.

I think that having a money cap is a good idea seeing as some may not be able to afford the most extravagant gift. I like the idea of a $15 cap. However, what if TF2 was involved though? For example, what if someone opted to donate for someone for $15 on the server, or something. I'm not sure if that would count, but I'm just saying!

Anyhow, I think it's a lovely idea. Either way, I think it would be interesting none the less.

The 15 bucks was a minimum cap. Basically, your gift had to be valued at $15+. This was to make sure someone didn't show up, spend 5 bucks on some Steam game and expect Call of Duty in return. Their was no maximum because maybe someone was feeling extra generous. For instance, last year, Rawkies bought Benny Assassin's Creed (not sure which one) which was like 30-40 bucks. We made sure to tell everyone participating that they had the right to not reveal what they got and/or how much it was worth, so as to keep gloating to a minimum.

Okay so we can do a cap. Steam is fine, but it doesn't seeeeem as personalized because that person can buy it for themselves. I would also request everyone participating to share what they collect or if there is something that interests them. Like, I have a friend who collects shot glasses from different areas...etc. Something you can't get for yourself. Last year I bought someone a pair of shoes (awesome deal) and they love that brand so it was a good example. I will pick them all out of my trapper hat again, so no corners will be cut! I agree 15$ MINIMUM and plllllease make sure to commit. I don't want to have to buy someone deus ex 1-2 again because someone else forgot (although I lub you so much so it was okay cuz I lub you :3 )

I'd like too, but sending things off is expensive. Especially overseas.

I wouldn't mind giving a steam gift or a real life gift... I have been eyeing stuff in the valve store.

Id love to, but that depends on if I can scrounge up the money by then. And it'd have to be a steam gift. My parents wouldnt take too kindly to me sending gifts to people on the internet. Buncha games coming out soon. Damn you limited teenage budget!
