OK Godmin. The episode itself made complete sense. My confusion is how the events of The End of Time fit in. They've mentioned dozens of times that Gallifrey was time locked, not burnt. But won't go there. So in The End of Time, their last day they pull themselves out of the time lock and to Earth. In The Day of the Doctor, they are still fighting. That's what I don't get.

In The Day of the Doctor didn't the whole time lock thing only include Gallifrey and not the Daleks so that the Daleks would just kill themselves off. Once "time locked" Gallifrey would no longer be under attack. Also, even though it's time locked it didn't necessarily mean that time was frozen and they weren't doing anything. I think that was implied if not stated in The End of Time.

I think the bigger discontinuity you're missing is that in The End of Time the time lords (I think, if I remember correctly) were mentioned to have changed to be almost as bad as the Daleks, which I thought was another reason why the Doctor kept Gallifrey locked away.
