Minecraft server?

by Ackybur » Tue Oct 04, 2011 7:04 pm

I've been really feeling a need to build random useless shit again, but it's not fun to play on servers people run off their own computer or on a server where you don't know anyone! I'm wanting to get an idea of who would actually be into something like this for CsN. I've already talked to FH and he gave me the go to look into it, we just now need a general idea on usage. Here are some of the prices I was noticing on a per player basis

The best one I found so far is allocates 768 KB of RAM for a server size suggested for 24 people at a time. That's not bad at all since the most I see is around 10-15 people in popular servers. This would be around 16$ a month.

(For failhorse/fingerman, if you have any other questions just ask. Already talking to failhorse now about donation benefits now...post after some ideas are decided.)

I'd play with you guys... but vanilla minecraft is head-splittingly boring for me; I might still drop on by just to say hello if you get a server up, but unless you guys are running mods, I'll probably just build a cave or something and sod off.
I refuse to use
    Soda Popper
    Liberty Launcher
    Axtinguisher; Phlogistinator
    Stickybomb Launcher
    Tomislav
    Pomson 6000
    Quick Fix
    Bushwacka; Machina
    Enforcer; Spycicle

on CSn servers.
I don't expect you to, but I appreciate those of you that do.

No we are talking about mods. For sure run bukkit, and maybe even look into the Zelda mods >.> I'd love that

Have you decided between Forge and ItemSprites? I've been meaning to build a massive underwater city in 1.8 once RedPower and the Technic Pack get updated, but if you guys wind up having the same mods I'd use, I'll just hop into the server and build it there instead.

I'm looking at options like a shop, donator benefits that give you blocks or money stuff like that.

So that's a "no" on picking a base API then?

Well if you pick Forge, I'll probably drop in for some nuclear engineering.

Actually, I would love a CSn sponsored minecraft server, I feel the need to get some fun out of minecraft rather than boring single-player. Plus with 1.8 released it wouldn't really hurt us (Maybe money wise if your really that big of a penny pincher)

I told fh of a server that supports bukkit for 16$ a month supporting around 24 people, he thinks we could do it cheaper but wants a fan base for it.

If you guys get it up and running forge, I'd be interested in playing; I've been doing some single player nuclear engineering but I'd love to do it on a server.

Color me interested. I can only play solo minecraft for so long; it's only truly fun for me when I'm doing it with friends. And it'd be nice to hang out with some of my critsandvich compatriots without the urge to stab them in the back.

If anyone is interested, I've had a Minecraft Server for about 5 months now. However, I've got it a bit expensive and it all comes out my own pocket, it has 10 player slots and can support an FTP connection for running whatever mods and such (although the host I am using has a lot of mods that you can add and configure quite easily).

It's not the greatest thing in the world but it works. I was actually thinking of taking it down if I'm totally honest with you, unless you want to do anything with what I already have. Just throwing that idea out there.

It's all good, I was gonna post back saying forget it, due to the fact the latest update won't run on my server, so I cancelled the service.
