I'm sick and tired of these comparisons. As I said in my impressions thing:

Seriously, it's annoying as hell. I'm tired of getting messages from people saying "minecraft > terraria" or vice versa. The two games are similar, yes, but not as much as people make it out to be. Really, Terraria reminds me more of a Metroidvania game. While Minecraft is a much more zen experience that is all about creation and atmosphere, Terraria is more concerned with combat and exploration. Yes, both games have similar elements like mining and crafting, but that doesn't make them the same game. It's like comparing Final Fantasy and Dragon Age.

Sorry if I come off as a dick, but it's just one of my instant rage buttons atm.

well, I guess it depends on the type of game you're looking for. Minecraft is all about creation, Terraria is more like an exploration game where you occasionally defend a central hub.

Then Terraria is the way to go, unless you're into modding shit.

Minecraft lasted me longer in terms of mindlessly doing shit.

Terraria was more "enjoyable", but that was all in the first week it was released before all this new shit.

Are there any other games like it then? I like the whole idea of finding resources, crafting, bit of pewpew, but the execution doesn't seem to live up to my standards.

Any roguelike will do, be it Dwarf Fortress or Spelunky.

Dwarf Fortress is definitely the game to play. Roguelikes aren't really the same thing, Volty, and DF isn't a roguelike. However, that being said, it does sound like you might enjoy roguelikes Das.

Dwarf Fortress

Roguelikes is a genre including such games as

Net Hack
Stone Soup

For a slightly easier to access roguelike, try

Dungeons of Dredmor

which is available on Steam and has a non-ascii GUI

Someday I will attempt to learn Dwarf Fortress. My current challenge is learning Vim.
