How hard is it to pick up Civ? If I pick it up on the next sale (and then buy 6) how quickly can I be competitive? It seems very much like my type of game, but I'm worried I'm way behind the curve because I haven't played any past iterations.

Really compared to other strategy games Civs relatively easy when it comes to learning how to do things.

Civ5 is probably the easiest Civ game to pick up and learn. There's a few small things you might need to learn about such as the World Congress, use of Spies, Religion, and unit costs, but it isn't too bad. I would just get the game with the expansions and just sit down and play once or twice. Be warned, once you start playing Civ5, you can't simply stop after an hour.

I truly think this is a game I'll envelope myself in, but I'm OK with that. I also feel like a game amongst friends is better (preferably with mic) to chat while playing, but anything will probably be up my alley. Although, you just said a lot of terms that I don't follow at all.

Bc it doesn't rely on a fast framerate and I can play in strategic mode so it's basically just a flash game also tf2 hasn't been optimized properly in ages.
