Biggest Gaming Disappointments

by VoltySquirrel » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:32 am

Fairly simple thread. Just tell which games were severely disappointing and why.

Personally, I've been disappointed many times. The most prominent in my memory is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I actually went to a midnight launch for that piece of shit. I've never been so pissed off at a game before. The only situatuion in which that game was fun was when I was knifing exclusively.

Got Supreme Commander 2 back when I did console gaming because I liked RTS games...

Hated that game so damn hard after playing it.
I refuse to use
    Soda Popper
    Liberty Launcher
    Axtinguisher; Phlogistinator
    Stickybomb Launcher
    Tomislav
    Pomson 6000
    Quick Fix
    Bushwacka; Machina
    Enforcer; Spycicle

on CSn servers.
I don't expect you to, but I appreciate those of you that do.

Please, the FF series hasn't been good since 9. 10 was atrocious, 10-2 was even worse, 12 was boring as hell, 11 was a mediocre MMO, and 14 was a massive clusterfuck. Don't even get me started on 8.

Duke Nukem Forever - Humor was awesome, but wow was it boring
Medal of Honor - MP maps have too many chokepoints, tries to hard to get between COD and Battlefield
Ninja Gaiden II - Too much hack n' Slash, didn't require the skill of the first one
Unreal Tournament 3 - Felt like it downgraded the pace of 2004
All of Final Fantasy - wryyyyyyyy!
Crackdown - After about 10 hrs i got boring, and don't get me started on 2
Gothic 4 - The day Gothic lost it's soul
Quake 4 - Wtf ID? From Quake II to this?
Tenchu Z - I love Tenchu, and this was the biggest, but bigger = rinse, wash, repeat. So many coruppt merchants.
I don't know why I keep buying Dynasty Warriors - Self explanatory

From Dust for being boring as fucking shit and costing 15 bucks. You can't build an entire game around exactly one game mechanic.
Dragon Age: Origins, if only because the console port sucks ass. The game is good and all, but the controls are fucking shit.

I agree with Left 4 Dead being a bit of a disappointment. They kept hyping the replay value. Sure, it's replayable, but the changes the Director makes are never big enough to really matter. And I don't find it to be a very scary game (even if that isn't the main point). Not really my type of game, I guess.

Still waiting on next Gordon installment. Come on valve, you can do it! Hope it doesn't end up on one of these lists.

To be perfectly fair , you can't post a game that's not even out yet. The only disappointment I had in oblivion, is that the NPC's aren't as "independent" as the the DEVs were hyping in interviews. Fallout 3 isn't even close to the same as Fallout 1&2. I honestly loved seeing its world in a First Person perspective, at least the NPCs were as generic as their 2D counterparts.

Anyway, I'm adding Brink and new Turok to the list.
Brink sounded so amazing, but the customization wasn't endless and a month after release I couldn't find any players on XboxLive.

To be fair I really can based on all the information and video along with Beth most recent work and false hype.

I liked 1st person view change also, but dislike most of the other changes.

It is anything but balls. Unit stacking was a major issue in previous Civ games. It lead to people just walking around with a wall of units that made attacking a city too fucking easy. It was the antithesis of strategy. The removal of unit stacking is a gift from God.

can't really build anything on any other map, besides forge world, boneyard, spire, breakpoint and the other invasion map I possibly missed. Bungie should've imported 1 or 2 maps from Halo 3 to Reach such as Foundry and Sandtrap.

Speaking of Lag issues, Homefront was so swamped like the first month they didn't have enough servers. So if you even connected to the match after 30 tries, you got a laggy game.

TF2-Yawn, boring. (XBOX Version) ;)
Splinter Cell: Conviction: Good, but not as good as past ones
Bioshock 2: Excellent, but how could it be as good as the original.
