CSn Team

by Buzz » Tue Mar 31, 2015 9:16 pm

Hello all

I have been gauging interest for a CSn competitive team. I will use this thread as advertisement and as somewhere to collate information. I was assuming we would enter UGC HL.

So far I have interest from:

Sandwiches - Scout
Buzz - Pyro
Ron - Soldier
Balubish - Demo
Pooptrick - Heavy
Krieger - Engi/Demo
Trash - Medic
Bernt - Sniper
Argent - Spy

Runkle - Reserve
Mudkip - Reserve
Someone Special - Reserve
Bubby - Coach/Reserve
Shadow Samurai - Scout/Reserve

Any questions, let me know.

I mean if you guys are serious, I could mentor you guys as much as possible when I can, as well as be a reserve pyro, med, solly. Just don't know how consistent I'll be able to be on with my work schedule.

Will they be providing an STV demo after the game? That would be cool.

Speaking of which, here are a bunch of recent STV demos from high level highlander matches. They might be a good resource for anyone who has the time to watch.

The CSn highlander team had their last match today. The season ended, unfortunately, with us not reaching the playoffs. We finished 19th, with the cut off at 16th. Our record for the season was 5 wins and 3 losses. Everyone we lost to made the playoffs. For more details on our performances you can check out the UGC website.

I would like to take this opportunity to give a huge thank you to everyone in the team for an enjoyable and valuable season. I am sorry we couldn't go further, but I hope everyone else enjoyed it - I know for some this was the first time playing competitive, and everyone gave it their all in matches as part of a team with little experience working together. Over the course of the season we definitely improved and became more cohesive. I would like to give special mention to Kenket for helping out a huge amount with organisation.

At this point I would like to present some awards:

Best attempt at team takeover: Kenket, for her failed coup after bringing in 374 of her own friends to the team.
Best super sub: Trash, for playing a class she had only heard about after being 'mysteriously instakilled from behind' (spy) at very short notice, and picking the enemy med twice.
Best spam: Krieger, for his enduring love for machines, living up to his Archer namesake.
Best hype: Bubby, for his inimitable 'comms'.
Most improved: Ron, for over the course of just 8 weeks upgrading from playing on a toaster, to playing on an actual computer with transistors.
Least sleep: Zack, for taking a huge slice out of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and playing every time he was called upon, despite being 6 hours ahead.
Best squeak: Gimpy, for communicating in the ultrasound (also most obstinate for refusing to let his team know his loadout).
Dewritos award: Bernt for his 1080 quickscope headshots.
Best comms: Special, for the vital tactical updates he provided via team chat.
Best enthusiasm: Ttariel, for his perpetual complaining whenever asked to play any class (especially engi).
Most confusing: Whiskers, for changing between three different names and two steam accounts over the course of the season.
CSn award for androgyny: Ren, for being confused for a girl by me for the first two days of being friends.
Least regard for own health: Argent, for mercilessly going for huge picks (usually successfully), whatever the odds.
Best combo work: Toss, for his dislike of going anywhere as part of a 'combo'.
CSn award for heroism: Neff, for admitting to playing TF2 using a controller.

Thank you everyone.

Great season guys, for a bunch of pubbers that never really played together (most who hadn’t even played comp before) we put together an extremely respectable record and we did much better than I ever anticipated (I didn’t even think we’d be anywhere near Steel level tbh).

Everyone should get a high five for giving their time each week especially the leaders of the team who had a hell of a task pulling together the 9 needed each week which proved to be an issue time and time again. Thanks for your hard work Buzz, Kenket, and all those that I’m not remembering to name.

Maybe next season we can organize practices/scrims/look over demos because honestly if we dedicated the time like some teams do with our pure skill and getting some actual comp experience we really can go places. This season I feel like we just kind of bulled through with our DM talent (and Zack’s sweet calls on Steel), but if we combine that with experience and organization/chemistry we might really be able to be a damn fine team. One last thanks to all those who helped me learn the comp scene, even if it was just HL, I appreciated the patience and all that you taught me.

We all should be very proud of ourselves. Making the playoff cut, especially in a division with such a skill and dedication variance as Steel, is very much based on luck, and unfortunately, we were left out mainly because of having two forfeit wins. We were only 1.25 MP (one round win in KOTH or PL) away from advancing into the knockout stage. Still a fantastic showing this season.

My advice to all of you is keep practicing if you enjoyed it. Hopefully we can either continue in some fashion, or some of you may find yourself interested in playing higher divisions of HL, 6s, or even venture out like I had before into other competitive games if you really enjoyed the atmosphere.

On a personal level, I was viewing this season as kind of a swan song for me with comp. I've technically played tf2 competitively off and on for about 4 years now. I was also very content on taking a backseat and just subbing in when I was needed at first. But you sweaty tryhards ignited a fire that I haven't felt in years. I'm glad we all had a blast and were content on not just playing, but becoming better, both individually, and as a unit.

Hopefully, Bernt has some of the hot fire that I spit out (when I wasn't medic) recorded.
